YouTube notes

In this style, the pitcher brings the arm out to the side laterally (abduction). But they turn their body toward second base at the same time. This allows the pitching arm to be raised to directly overhead without the ball being outside the wrist. Any Windmill pitcher can learn this technique in 5 minutes. This is a loophole in the ASA 10 Man Modified rules. In Pennsylvania ASA this is ILLEGAL if the pitcher brings the ball above a right angle created by the hip-shoulder-ball. Since these pitchers usually stand erect, it is illegal in PA if they come above the shoulder.

2nd base? In the case of this pitcher in the video, are you sure you dont mean 3rd base?

What I see here is a pitcher dropping the ball down and to the rear before starting the the forward arm motion, not unlike a fast pitch pitcher does in the double pump wind up. He opens his hips to around 45 degrees and strides out with a step, a step style pitch. No idea if the modified regs allow for a push off the rubber or not.

I never played modified pitch but I do know there is a written allowance for the pitcher to bring the ball 'Behind' their back in the motion. I dont recall ever hearing about a restriction of bringing it back only to shoulder height. Always thought they could go no farther thanm 12:00 bringing it back.

With not bringing the bsall any higher than the shjoulder, I would think the 'Figure 8' and 'Slingshot' windups would be legal in modified. HMMM?

That is what they described in the YouTube comment.

Yet another great find Nick..........And this people is where I got my start...........As I've stated in the past, I began pitching at 16yo in an ASA 9 man "sling-shot" league, where is was legal to bring the ball back with a bend in the elbow as long as the upper arm/bicep remained parallel to the ground (9:00)........This was known as 9:00 fastpitch........Or.......SLING-SHOT fastpitch.........Of course we cheated the 9:00 position a bit because the human eye can't see the cheat just above 9:00...........

The reason this was a significant start for me as a PC is that I had to learn the BEST MECHANICS to throw the ball as FAST AS POSSIBLE in JUST SHY OF a 1/2 circle.........This is when I discovered/learned about the I/R bio-mechanics that created MAXIMUM WHIP from the peak of the 1/2 circle backswing. Back in the day in ASA, we were NOT allowed to push off/drag, or leap.......The pivot foot had to remain in contact as the stride foot planted.......

If you'll notice, there is a UNIVERSAL position that begins the whipping motion.......And I/R mechanics that create the "whip"...........And it wasn't invented on a submarine.........

This became my "foundation" to creating the velocity that my pitchers are known for..........They had to learn to "throw the ball underhand" before I allowed full circle windmill mechanics that distracted from the CORE of the fastpitch motion........"The WHIP"...........

Soon after we moved to 12:00 with the bicep vertical to the ground and the ball forward of the head with the elbow flexion..........Then on to windmill by the time I was 18.........Then ASA introduced the push/drag, then the leap for men.........

Again.........Great find Nick..........

Thanks BM, As a newbie and teaching my DD I want to learn ALL aspects of pitching. Everyone in this site adds to my knowledge. BM I started studying anatomy and kinesiology because of you.
