consistency from 40', instead of 35'. I know her mechanics are bad but I just find it to be weird. The only thing I can think of is that she knows mentally she is further back, and maybe has faster arm whip? I'm Clueless

We always pitched from 40 feet, with a 12 inch ball. I don't know who changed it, but I have said all along, that it didn't help the game.
Once a pitcher releases the ball at 35 feet she is then, aaprox. 30 feet from home plate. Put a batter in the front of the box and she is 25 feet from a batter. Try pitching from 35 feet, I think that you would hold back, too.

Young ladies do not like to perspire. Having said that, ever had an employee that only did JUST ENOUGH work to keep their job, but no more than that? Get my drift?

I have seen this so many times; a pitcher trying to get the job done, without working hard at it at all. Seen it in games, seen it in the classroom. I could do something about it in the classroom. Thats how I knew if they were working hard in the game when I would see them there.

I'm not saying fire your own kid, I'm saying build a fire UNDER your kid.

I think I understand where you're going with this Hal. My own DD would do this. If she had to pitch against a really weak team she wouldn't throw hard, wouldn't spin the ball. She knew how much effort she didn't have to give to still get the job done. Face a great team, she'd become a different pitcher.

Same as with the team, face a weak team, play weak. Face a great team, play great. Putting themselves on the same level as the competition.

The teams I played on did not enjoy me throwing batting practice at team practices. Any time I was in the circle, I treated it like it was a game. All out and everything I knew to strike all of them out. I knew it, they knew it and so did the coach. If anyopne wanted l;ess, break out the pitching machine.

Maybe this young lady is holding back for some other reason.
