Just to add my two cents worth on this "junk ball" thread. I think BM hit it right on the head in his early post on this thread.
My desire for my students is that they have four distinctively different speeds.......which means they probably have four different movement pitches. Having said that, it is much easier to have "distinctively different speeds" if the top speed is high (all depends on age)......so high end speed is a huge asset. Here is an example of four distinctively different speeds (or as I call it....speed variation):
Dropball.....63 mph
Riseball/Curveball......58 mph
Offspeed Curve...50 mph
Change Up....45 mph
When a young lady can achieve something like this, she has transitioned from a "Thrower into a Pitcher".
For those who think their DD has topped out on speed I suggest you never give into that thought.......I know my own DD kept increasing her speed all the way up to 28 years old.
