I always thought the thumb comes off the ball as the hand is rotated behind the ball at the hip on snap/release, then when my thumb releases the middle finger, index finger snap off the ball with a 12-6 rotation. Why can't the ball rotate 12-6 downspin?
Put some tape 4 seams and if you can snap the ball with a straight line then that means you are getting your wrist behind the ball at snap/release.
I would think that if the thumb releases BEFORE the hand gets behind the ball then you got an across the seams snap and for a right hander than means side spin toward the inside of the plate.

Hillhouse, I have a few 12's that can throw a knuckle change with no spin. Like in Baseball a knuckleballer is known to throw knuckle balls but the batters even though they know its coming they have trouble hitting it.
As for the backhand you can throw it without spin so I don't know what you are talking about.
AS for a the rise spin has nothing to do with making the ball go up. According to Eddie Feigner it depends on how the softball is made that determines how well the ball moves.
You play AA ball with the best hitters that are men who can read pitches very well. This is girls softball and they don't quite add up to the strength and ability of the men. Will they ever have girls professional baseball or will the guys always dominate that?

What is typical time frame to convert from HE to IR? My DD has been doing the HE style for couple years but are looking to change.
