I suspect he was holding back on speed. If it were me giving that little demonstration, I would try and throw at HER speed. If he was a higher level pitcher and threw full speed, that could damage her confidence some.

You also have to consider the arm circle as you are coming forward. It is shaped closer to an oval with the top front part somewhat flat as you come up to around 1:00. Then you make the transfer from pulling back to powering forward.

Again, I strongly suspect he was holding back on speed and that can play with your mechanics a little.



As an instructor I would ocassionally pitch batting practice to teams / groups of 8unders all the way up to college age. Tak about MAJOR adjustments to EVERYTHING in my mechanics, OMG! Yeah.

My DD is 7 so she would have no idea what his full speed looks like and her confidence is still intact. She has pitched next to excellent 14 to 17 year old pitchers at clinics and she has never been fazed. He might have been holding back on speed a little but it still left a mental image what things look like when done by a top pitcher.
