Hi

What are some drills to correct release, GD hangs onto the ball sometimes to long, sometimes she rolls her wrist like a screwball, trying to get her on a straight line.

Doing the knee drill, facing towards the foul line, concentrating on the 12-6 arm swing, she really has a lot of pop in the arm.

Have limited space in the basement for full arm swing ceiling is not quite high enough, we are starting in the gym as much as we can.

Look at any tips

thanks

Hi grampa,

Depending on the pitch she is throwing, the style she uses and whether she uses open or closed mechanics, these thing will dictate the release poiont and everything else involved with the release.
There is no generic release or release point for fastpitch.

As far as trying to pitch with limited vertical clearance goes; Baseballs ''Submarine style' pitching was first invented by guys in the US Navy on the submarines during WW II. Thet had very limited vertical room because of piping, etc. The 'Softball Submarine' wind up was also invented on those subs by softball pitchers that wanted to practice their craft.

Using that wind up as a tactic along with her 'bread and butter' wind up really disrupts the hitters timing of the pitchers motions.

I taught it to all the students I ever worked with and they had greast success with it. It can be found at the link below.

Can you give us some more information, or possibly a video showing her full view from the throwing side??? Need more data.

Man that's a war story my father in law never told me while he was in WWII in The South Pacific, but that was only in the early 40's and on a Battle ship, and i never heard any baseball stories from him /none the less///

I do not have any current videos, will do later if necess/

I'm not joking about the heat in her arm, she is one of those gifted people that no effort is required for speed, how ever/ the arm swing is not always correct and in trying to get control spot on.

Consequently Mon nite was our first, and i did not get involved with what was ahead and what was lagging, i mainly wanted to see if she was into it after being burnt the last 2 years, we won;t go there,, we had done several drills before so it wasn't a newbie completely/

So when she is at "the point of release to throw straight" she hangs onto the ball to long and if the pendulum is not true it goes left "rightie" and she was at a camp a couple years ago, and came open with the hand ,wrist turning to the right, concentration, i'm not sure. We ended up pretty well, she had it down pretty well that she was sticking it in her mothers mitt.

The problem they have is being "devoted to it" basketball, volley ball, tr ball, and dance.

I have been around and played both baseball and fastpitch a long time and when i see someone with talent, and of course being related i have a greater interest. Times are different than when i was a child, if we did not have a game going , something was wrong, kids today sometimes have to be motivated even if they have talent they don't know what to do with if no one is spurring them on

Friday we are supposedly on again, so we'll see what we gained in a casual first time outing.

I'll try to be more specific next time

Thanks

If i did get a video, how do or where do we post it,?

When my dd first started we used a swimming noodle. I would hold it at the release point while she warmed up. I know there is a flap you can buy also.

When you say she is holding on too long, is she throwing high?

2 things it goes left and high or just left swing is not vertical or she lets go out front on line and goes high, i showed her where it needs released, need a memory program and or just more throwing

If her form is otherwise solid, then practice usually resolves "release point" issues. Release point is generally a non-teach when all else is good. It can be a general point made when discussing overall form and timing--but as a teaching point; practicing proper form usually covers the issue.
