My dd has been pitching seriously for 1.5 years.she is 10.I taught her from a lot I learner on this great forum and dvds.we decided to go to a Pc.she is pitching a 12" ball around 41-42 and uses the leap n drag style.tonite was around the 5th time seeing the Pc and he noticed that around every 4th pitch she would jump illegally of the rubber with both feet airbourne.he said it was hard to notice and may not get called but wants to eliminate this issue now.he wants her to use the step style to resolve this issue.my concern is that the season starts in April and not sure if this is enough time to change styles.2nd concern is that she throws significantly slower with the step style.anybody been through this?? Any thoughts??dd is a little frustrated.thanks in advance

When I was still working with pitchers, I would get referrals from other instructors to do exactly that; to convert a step style pitcher to leap and drag. I used 'Coach Hal's Foundation Method' to do just that and it never failed.

It is in my book and it has a money back guarantee if you are not satisfied.

I would really be leary of an instructor that would try to change a L&D (even a beginner) to step style for ANY reason.

I have posted video of my dd doing that very thing that her coach took and commented on via coaches eye. She didn't and I guarantee she and 99.999999999% of pcs would not recommend switching styles to address that issue. I hope you misunderstood?

Pitching without the ball focusing on keeping it down. At times laid a rope in front that she had to drag. Do not switch her to step. I ran from her first pc that taught step. If you cue her she maybe able to resolve just by focusing on it a little.

Vino.

doing drills with incorrect mechanics will only re-enforce bad mechanics.

I think the whole problem is that no incorrect mechanics have been identified. Maybe she just needs to work on leaping forward instead of up. There is probably some hitch, pause or inconsistent speed in her arm circle but that is not what the OP stated....vino if you can get some video that would help us out in being able to help you out. Although almost all here will tell you that changing to a step style is not the answer the answer is finding out what is causing her to do this and addressing the problem

The OP said this only occurs every 4th pitch or so does that mean she is pitching correctly the other 3 out of 4 times. Obviously there is no way to tell without video but the OP should get some video and identify the difference between when she is legal and illegal.

I think what has people leery is they come here for advice not to be told to buy a book.
