Rich, not that I am trying to jump on your bandwagon again, but I totally agree with you. I like practicing with things that translate into the way a ball is actually thrown. Throwing a football underhand and a softball are totally different actions. Drills that have the pitcher on one knee or facing the catcher or throwing through their legs on one knee are all things that someone who never pitched came up with. I don't like long toss unless it is with the riseball because you have to change release angle for the other pitches and I believe it is counter productive. Walkthroughs are fine for about 10 throws and then start like you are pitching from a fixed position. We can't trick our students into becoming good pitchers. It is about doing things properly and consistently.

Maybe I missed it but exactly where have either of you actually offered up a n actual piece of advise that a parent can take straight to the back yard and use with their kid to help make them a better pitcher??

Or is that only something you do when they pay for your time?

Parents and coaches come on this board actually looking for advice they can use and all you can say is buy this DVD or dont llisten to me?? That's all you have to offer anyone?

Knightsb...
Thanks for the snap analogy... my dd just turned 14 and we are currently working on this new pitch for her. In the Hillhouse video, Bill will drive the seam with his index finger. But my dd's hand is too small for that grip. We are currently shopping for a grip she can use. Ill try the snap method tonight.

Knightsb, if you read my response on this thread I am in the same boat as your dd. Try using a 3 finger grip. Use the pointy, middle and ring finger inside the C area of seams of the ball. Make sure the fingers go only 1/2 half way inside the C, She will develop the exact spin and do everything else a rise should and be able to throw a 4 seam rise. I have used and taught this grip for many years and many of my students and myself have developed a very good rise ball.

Does your daughter have a softball constantly in her hand? Is she spinning it in the air and catching it to the point where it's annoying? Has she gotten in trouble at school for it?

If you've answered "no" to any of those things, then you know what's wrong.

I bet you'd change your tune if their advice was to "buy Hal's book" as you promote each day. I think it seems to bother you the most that so few people endorse your ideas and techniques.

I wish I could answer that with a resounding "YES" but I can't....just as I can't give you a resounding "NO".
