The firm Bat Jack is a little more ridged material compared to the soft. The firm gives a bit more support and would be better suited for older/stronger players. In my opinion, the soft Bat Jack better suits younger players that don't have as much hand strength or torque in their swing.

That being said, both the firm and soft have been used by players of all ages. Some like the firm, some like the soft. I guess it comes down to personal preference.

My recommendation would be for players 12 and under to use the soft Bat Jack. Players above 12 years old could go with either the firm or soft.

Again, just my opinion. Young players have used and liked the firm as well. Hope this helps.

Was going to order one but when checked out website I see they went up $5 since I looked at the other week. Should have ordered before I went on vacation. Now I will save my money.

I have 6 all soft and well worth the money ! Plus about 1/2 my players I work with have ordered one. I find it funny that many pay $300 for a bat and don't blink an eye and not pay for lessons or how to use it correctly like any tool.

What effect would the BatJack have if used on the bottom hand finger? What if it was used on both hands? I haven't tried one but I am curious if one couldn't get a really great primarily one-armed swing with it if it was on the bottom hand.

Softballphreak ... I think I see what you wish to accomplish.

Got the idea from LC to use a pencil in the top hand to get a hitter used to the notion of a raised index finger. What I do during that drill is stress to hitters that I want them to duplicate the same raised index finger feel with the bottom hand as well. That is, the pencil provides the physical raised finger lift for the top hand, and the hitter transfers that feel to duplicating it with their bottom hand. I don't actually place a gadget on the bottom hand, but I do want this attribute in the bottom hand. It also isn't my intent that a batter become dependent on a gadget, but to instead capture the feel and bring it into their swing.

Speaking of gadgets, what if some sort of finger brace or sleeve or athletic tape, even, was put on the index finger to restrict it from bending until a batter felt the benefit and formed the right habit? Wouldn't that be similar?

I was thinking with the BatJack on the bottom hand the batter could really swing fast without fear of the bat coming out of their hand. Some batters can't get rid of that concern.
