hello all

My daughter has started using a new hitting coach and he has been using the insider bat. I personally do not see any big deal about it .

Can anyone share there feelings on this tool ? Would you use this tool for older girls? Does the bent handle useful ? Can it cause any bad habits? What makes this tool any better than using a small tee ball bat for one handed drills?

Thanks

Be careful.

It might be able to help with some things, but if you don't use it very specifically, you can end up with a problem with disconnection.

In general, the problems arise when you set up and use it just like a real bat and not just for a few specific drills.

"The best drill to do with this tool is to throw it as far away as possible. We discussed this silly thing over a period of a few weeks, and never could come to a possible solution on how it could improve a swing. "

A few comments on another site about this and none are good!

I like the product, as do many others ... including folks like Mike Candrea.

If you have a hitter that doesn't establish a swing by fusing their connections, then they will struggle .... and they will struggle something fierce .... which is what I like about this tool. If you are an instructor that stresses making a connected swing, then this tool can help you promote the important fusion points involved with establishing a connected swing.

Mike Candrea:
“The insider bat is a tremendous teaching tool to create the proper feel of staying inside the ball and releasing the angles we create in hitting. We use it for top hand and bottom hand drills! I love the elements of instant feedback and proper feel that it gives hitters of all ages!”

Don Slaught:
“I highly recommend the insider bat. Very rarely do you come across a training aide that is easy to use and takes so little instruction. Immediately when the hitter picks up the insider bat his mind starts calculating the necessary swing path to hit the ball squarely.”

Dr. Tom House (USC Trojans Baseball):
The Insider Bat is proving to be a great personal swing coach for our athletes. It helps program every hitter’s swing path to be in the proper position at the right time to maximize his unique contact efficiencies.

That’s a “home run” for player and instructor at any level of competition.

The product has a decent list of testimonials.

My students do not like it and neither do I.

The ball has to be further in the box to hit or drive it up the middle and it does not feel right to me or the students. Also you can only hit tennis balls with it.

Some people swear by it however we do not use it.

The hands are inside the ball basically at bat lag and the round rod is bent and the flat surface is pointing towards the pitcher.

Have you ever seen a swing with the "hands outside the ball"? Can you post a few?

My point is, that phrase can encompass a lot ... including flawed swing mechanics.

In all seriousness, if you are going to use a hand path as demonstrated in SL's interpretation of Howard's drill, in which there is some odd objective to have the rear forearm nearly vertical as the hands are out front in a bat lag orientation ... then this device won't work for you ... which IMO is a good thing, as it will expose certain flawed swing mechanics.
