Specifically, what drills would people recommend with the IB and what drills would they NOT recommend? I think that would be the most useful information to post at this point, rather than a debate about the relative merits of testamonials for gadgets.

FFS I think you are missing the point on slow motion drills. . Amazing with 1,500 years of martial arts training learning the moves in slow motion while staying balanced and then gradually speeding it up is all wrong.
This is how
Crystl and Howard teach and why they teach this way. Show us a drill that you teach with a student like SL did and we can take a look at it . Everyone is on here to gain knowledge and learn new methods or training tools. We will see Mike and Don on 12-18 and we will ask them about the comments on this tool. I know what Bustos said about it , " but I can't post it on this site". It should be interesting.

SBF, my application of slow-motion swings is mostly to learn if a student is understanding what is being asked for. It's a form of confirmation that the student is grasping what I'm attempting to have them do.

You speak of performing a drill in slow motion, and then speeding it up. The assumption of course is that the underlying drill, or mechanic, is correct ... which isn't the case here. This drill, as it is performed, bypasses critical fusion points needed to initiate a connected swing. As one speeds up this drill, it won't be replicated the same as it is being performed in slow motion.

SBF, do let us know if Mike Candrea is the type of person that endorses a product simply to make a buck, while his true opinion of the product is completely different.

Having met Mike on multiple occasions, I would think he’d be insulted by such an implication.

This drill he is using is only to learn hand path. It was a device built for Coach Larabee at the time WSU, now Arkansas. It is not intended to speed up. It leads into the Big Zone Training that Bustos and Howard do at every camp. Those that have RVP, Mike does a good job explaining the big zone. We work with many young girls under 14 and many beginners and you must demo so they can see and feel before you can go to the next step. Having a connected swing is down the road for many of these kids. Is this pefect no, but I use this device with many , because of lack of anything better that I have seen to get them to understand how the elbow and hands must travel to keep the bat in the Big Zone. If you have a better way of training someone at that age or a better tool , I'm willing to try it.

Boulder ... people like Mike value their reputation, and wouldn't carelessly throw it aside to promote a product like the IB bat. Of all people, Mike strikes me as a person of high integrity.

I'm not following your comment about the walk-up drill that you learned from Mike. How is it that this doesn't allow 'her' to get into a position to hit? If it works for the person performing the demo, then why doesn't it work for 'her'?

Look at where she went to contact, thats the reason I showed this particular video, disreguard the walk up drill part , she will stop when she gets to the place where she can get to contact, notice where she is at when she is at contact, notice where the ball is on the tee compared to the plate, there is no way you can use the insider bat and get there, its just not possible, you would have to scoot the tee way in on the plate..... I do not teach girls to hit the ball that deep in the plate up the middle.
If you use the insider bat to train with and then switch to a standard sized bat with live pitching , about all you are going to accomplish is foul balls.
As far as someone doing a sales add for a product to endorse it, its money ....... to my knowledge Candrea dosent use this in any of his training, If Don slaught likes it then that is his call, I personaly have found no use for it........ well I take that back..... it has created a thread on a fastpitch board so it has accomplished something
Still waiting on some Videos of yours or other instructors students that have used this turd

YouTube - Insider Bat Informational Video / www.insiderbat.com

Starting at about 5:10 into the video youll see how close he has to stand to the ball for it to work, thats not where you hit a ball back up the middle, especially, when you go back to a standard sized bat, we have tried it worked with it and my bottom line is, I would not recommend it to anyone for any age.

This is Five Frame Swings endorsement to MANKIN on a good hitting aid

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJLS3omg_cY

This is my home made one that Five Frame Swing has been beating the dead horse over. Talking over and over about a stacked elbow.
Watch the mankin video five frame swing endorses of yes ( another person) not his own and watch the kid in the second video pass his rear leg with a stacked elbow and forarm, which five frame swing has beat into the ground saying it does not happen.

This is Barry Bonds. Not one of my students.

Sorry I usually try to use real life examples. Not MLB players. His forarm is stacked above his elbow.

Darn Barry Bonds is doing it wrong according to Five Frame Swing.

You know the guy!!! The one that posted 200 times saying it does not happen in the swing.
