Why is it every time you seem to get into an altercation with someone you bring in a video of Straightlegs DD? Do you really not have any of your supposed students? Just asking. I know it has been asked before and I guess it needs to be asked again. Where are your students??? I have watched on here a lot and have posted on here quite a bit and it really seems that you have a problem with Howards teachings. I know I know you will say you don't....but all of your video arguments has some form of Howards teaching in it and Straightlegs DD in it. Well get your "students" on here for a change.
I know you will now attack me and ask me for my students and I will tell you I have none! I simply have my 2 DD's and I am just a dad trying to teach my kids the best I can without all the rubbish that seems to go along with much of what you have to say. Don't get me wrong there are some things that you have posted on here that I really like but my god why do you always go back to Straightlegs DD???? I think you have worn that one out....Please move on. The female body is different then the male body.....sorry it is a fact.....you may not have realized it but it is a fact and you cannot hide from it as long as you want to but it will not change the facts no matter how much you want it to.
I am not trying to start anything with you I am just throwing out my two cents worth and just saying some on here is tired of your obvious effort to undermine both Howard and Straightleg. You can deny it all you want but it is old and obvious. Please move on!!!

Mkral, thank you for throwing out your two cents. I respect that.

As an FYI, SL has made these demonstrations widely available. I believe they have been posted at HI, BBD, EH, here, and probably other locations. In some cases they have been posted on multiple occasions. My point is that the demonstrations are fairly well spread across the Internet. IMO, the criticism you refer to here is relatively tame in comparison.

IMO SL’s demonstrations have key flaws in them, that if actually mimic’d, and learned, would not have the positive consequences that I hope are desired.

Cshilt is highlighting the point that the swing as demonstrated can negatively impact a hitter’s inside/outside plate coverage … and he is correct … but the issue with what is being demonstrated goes well beyond that.

As for the female body being different …. My comment back to you is to recognize that many high level instructors consider the male swing and female swing to be virtually identical, and that you think twice before not learning what you can from those at the highest level of the sport.

As for your two DDs …. Enjoy them and the journey. It can provide memories for a lifetime. The more successful they are, the more you’ll enjoy the journey … best wishes with it!

Cshilt .... you have no idea how pleased I am by your post.

Thank you .... and thank Howard too.

You are free to twist what I say into whatever you want. Your prerogative. My comments are my own, but I'll tell Howard next time I talk to him how pleased you are.

Here is a video of Mike Epstein demonstrating his version of getting on the plane of the pitch. His slow motion swing starts at about the 3:00 mark. Feel free to dissect this swing and compare it to live swings.

Crystl breaks the swing down into seven basic steps to make it easier
for the girls to understand:

1) Ready - Relaxed position in the batter's box
2) Stance - Bend at the waist, soften the knees, bat slotted, hands
between the top of the shoulder (no higher than the ears)
3) (Load to) Toe Touch - Getting to toe touch and separation
4) Elbows/Knob - Maintain the box, elbows work in unision (bat lag
position)
5) Release to Contact - Barrel to the ball
6) Extension - What some would call the power "V" after contact
7) Follow-thru - Finish (high)

Thanks for the ME video Cshift, but a question your earlier post line 7 finish high. The ME video is this as high as you suggest for the finish? At the shoulder. A coach in our area teaches a very high finish and it as the video suggest seems to result in too many fly balls. V type swing, I try for the shoulder and base of the ear.

Edit to add it seems the kids are more concerned on the high finish that keeping the bat head in the zone for as long as possible.

PEPPERS, the finish is what occurs after extension and should be where the wrists roll. The finish can give an indication of what happened during the swing; kids who roll their wrists too soon will finish almost exclusively below the shoulder. A proper finish will be around the shoulder area, but is dependent somewhat on pitch location. The lower the pitch, the higher the finish. The higher the pitch, the finish will likely be lower. Some hitters keep both hands on the bat during their finish, while others release the top hand.

Alrighty, I can see this thread has gotten very far off track, and it's not really accomplishing anything. Given some of the discussion, both in this thread and some of the others, I think it's good to remember the words of Friedrich Nitzsche:

"You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist."

And with that thought, this thread is closed.
