Chris,
Great information thanks for the post. I read where tweaks said you were attacking hi people i feel some of the hi people attacked Howard Carrier on every post he made and now because of that he now longer is posting here. Discuss fastpitch lost somebody who had a lot of information to share with players coaches and parents who could of used this information to help kids get better. What a mistake to lose that kind of resource, all of you who attacked Howard should be ashamed of your selfs. And yes for what its worth i also played the game past high school.

Agree. It surpises me that we can't get people together to have a lively discussions about fastpitch without the personal attacks and negativity. Do we all not have the same goal, to promote softball and help our DDs improve in all areas of their game?

For the record Tewks is one of the best poster on this site IMO. He's always been willing to put himself and his ideas on video for the rest of us to see what he's thinking, much like Howard Carrier who I also hold in the highest esteem. Tewks gave me some great insight on how to help my DD and she had the best year she has ever had by far. She went to her first college camp and from what I was told by others she lit it up and coaches were taking down her personal info. I promised Tewks that I would get some video loaded for him and I will because its the least I could do for him and others on here for their help.

Broadly speaking, The Box is the shape made by the shoulders, the front elbow, and the hands. However, it's going to vary and change shape depending on whether a hitter has to make an adjustment or not (which is why it can be hard to visualize since it is only rarely actually shaped like a box).

The Triangle is made up of the front and back elbows and the knob of the bat. In a good swing, the triangle pretty much stays the same shape from launch through the POC. If you watch my clip of Pujols...
I did a lot of work with the "box" or "triangle" this past year with a group of 10U and my at the time 14U with limited success. What I found was many of the kids were continuing to rotate with the box pulling the bat across their body and the ball. This did not resemble the finish I saw on many successful swings which went into extension (at the time I felt the extension was a natural byproduct of the swing and not a part of it).

The more I looked however I became convinced that the box is maintained and the hands stay connected to the hip and knee rotation on the most powerful swings. When the hip obtains it's needed degree of rotation the hands do release into and through the ball. Such extension seems common and also may keep the bat in the zone for a longer time. I have used Tewks Barrel to the ball explanation to make sure that not only is the core turning the triangle but the hands are rotating the barrel.

Thats what I have been trying to explain to my organization coaches who will listen and demonstrate to some young players over the past few months.

If the middle/core/torso isn't working properly, the body will seek power elsewhere - usually the arms will pull, sometimes the back will lean, sometimes the shoulders will fall... many different possible combinations. I use an example of a bike with younger kids. The big gear is the torso turning, the little gear is the hands. The chain is the connection... if the chain falls of, you aren't going anywhere. Oversimplified, yes, but it can help them FEEL when things aren't together and younger kids can relate to it. Its about them anyway. If they can't understand it, why use it.

Not people - information. The same was being done to Howard if I remember correctly. There was a question about a position in the swing that was being taught that was attacked... Ask fiveframe... as of recently, he isn't at HI anymore.

Howard shared a great deal of information and I understand he has tremendous success teaching hitters. If Howard chose to take that attack personally, that was his choice. I would guess that Howard would share again if given the proper platform.

What are the limits you are talking about??

Some limitations...

1. He doesn't seem to understand bat drag.
2. His lower body stuff doesn't resemble what most major leaguers do.
3. I have seen some REALLY ugly swings from Epstein-trained hitters swinging out of the position used in the torque drill.
