My 11 yo daughter has been lunging after balls and not staying back. Is there any drills for this? She is good with fast pitches but the pitches she will see this year will have her lunging and not keeping weight back

Put a ball on a high tee outside in the other batters box even with the batters front shoulder. When doing front toss or tee work tell her she needs to keep her head behind the ball on the tee. After each swing have her self evaluate. It’s just a visual aid out of the corner of the eye.

Also, when working tee have her consciously push back against a stiff front leg. In my observations most young players with the lunge problem have either a weak front side or their stance post stride is too narrow and they don’t ‘feel’ the balance they should in their foundation.

Thank you I will give these a try

Don't you have to do drills to fix a problem

No, I do not treat drills like prescription medicine.

I have several drills that I use to introduce a hitter to a concept that they are not familiar with. That is the intent of those particular drills ... they introduce a concept to the hitter ... they do not provide a correction ... repeating the drill again-and-again-and-again does not help once the concept is understood, and in fact repeating the drill again-and-again-and again runs the risk of making the hitter worse. Once the concept is understood, the job is to work on it ... generally first via front-toss, and then against a live arm.

As has been mentioned in your other thread, do you have any video of your DD's swing that you can share with us? There are a bunch of factors that could be contributing to the result you are seeing. Trying to fix the result without addressing the upstream issues is often an ineffective way to make changes. You have mentioned both timing and lunging issues. It could very well be that her sequence is a mess.

That's kind of like asking, "Is there's an app or video that can tell me why my car tire keeps going flat?".

The are plenty of apps that can show you how to determine the various things or reasons that could have caused your tire to go flat, but no app that can tell you itself specifically, how or why your tire keeps ending up low on air.

It wasn't me.

Not here.

You can try each app/video(drill)/suggestion and eventually you 'may' be able to fix your tire(swing).
It's worked for me....I have 4 cars to maintain so Youtube is my go to.

True...but, maybe one of the apps will 'fix' it.

Cool, I need that app! What do you do, set it on the tire or car, and presto...tire's fixed? :) Oh heck, I bet that's still only an iPhone app, and I've got this dang Android relic. :D

Never mind OP, I'm sure there's a drill to cure an unseen "lunge" if you eventually go through all of them...try the "Broomstick drill" first, hard to lunge with a broomstick pressed against your lower spine.

Good luck.
