Saw Cameron Maybin on MLB this morn and he credited Mitch for helping him and that he is seeing a hitting coach in California but I could not hear his name clearly. Here are some quotes and thoughts from Mitch:

"I'm not really trying to hit a fly ball," he said. "I like to think about trying to hit a line drive over the center fielder's head… I know some guys around the league after at-bats will go look at what their exit velocity and launch angle were. For me, I know when I hit the ball hard, and when it's a line drive, it's going to be a good launch angle. So I don't need to go look at data for that.

"I read Bobby Tewksbury's book on hitting mechanics and in the offseason going into it I knew what changes I wanted to make. I went with my good friend Daniel Descalso and we worked with a guy named Matt Lisle.

A true student of the game and deep thinker, Haniger doesn't even look at confidence as an emotional thing.
"I get my confidence through the effort I put in the weight room and cage."

There seems to be allot of instructors teaching this stuff to ML hitters these days. Stuff we talk about all the time and albeit all of these instructors have gleaned stuff off the internet. Just goes to show you that when you apply this stuff to very good athletes the ceiling is pretty high.

I really like the part about confidence comes from knowing you put in the work. It always good to share this info from a pro with DD instead of me saying it. Gives the advice credence and merit. Really!

If you get a chance to see interview what stands out is that Cameron Maybin is a well spoken gentleman. Been a pro since 19 years old and says he making changes now to become a better player. Even respectfully hints that maybe some of the old school coaches maybe didn't help him too much. He says he was always taught to hit it on the ground because he has great speed. He is a FA and I think the team that gets him will be happy they did.

He was touted as a highly ranked prospect when he was younger. Insanely fast runner. Hitting has been his weakness. Career .254 hitter with .322 OBP, but has 174 stolen bases. If he could increase his OBP by 50 points he would be an excellent lead off hitter.

FYI -- Craig Wallenbrock works with several professional players. He is well respected in the industry.

Miguel Cabrera has one arm longer than the other! What?

Glutes trigger the rotation.

The importance of set up, stance, balance and posture. I knew this but I think it is overlooked.

That he want his hitter to understand their swing. Ask questions. Know why he or she is doing what they are doing. I think it is important to have hitter interested and engaged in their swing. Otherwise they are just beating balls and cant practice with a purpose.
