Yeah, that's something I think we so often ignore when talking about how well player xyz hit that changeup/curve/rise/etc. At a camp the JMU coach was working with the catchers and she spent a good portion of her time going over how to block the view of signals. She said her (the coach) main job during games is to steal signals. She went so far as looking at the striations in the forearm to tell what fingers were being displayed. So I fully believe there are many times college and even pro players know what's coming. I've been known to give basic cheers to my DD that lets her know a change is coming. I don't always as I want her to hit anything given to her, but in certain situations she "might" get a hint. :p I take pride in learning the opposing coach's signals. Usually within one inning I have every pitch and location he/she calls, even if they're using cards.

At what level do you think most girls on team can use the information in game speed? I coached with a guy who like you could figure out the signs. But when you player name (fastball) or number (offspeed) very few could actually process and use the info. I know some coaches watch for catchers to set up early and holler either "go with it" (away) or "turn" on it (inside). But at game speed girls hear " wha wha wha wha" like Charlie Brown cartoons.

She has been playing pro ball for 7 or 8 years. She is good. I am positive that over the course of her playing she has faced many a low pitch and has been successful there too!

Right, exactly the reason I wanted to see it ;) If I wanted to see somebody who doesn't do it correctly from that position at launch, well I wouldn't need to go too far I would just look at my DD :D

I know this is basically a neck slot starting position, but is this considered swinging around the body (sort of like a Stanton path) ?

Do you consider Wiggins swing different then this path (which is an extreme example, HR derby swing) ?

Is Wiggins "around" and Cabrera "out from"?

Shawn could you isolate the bat flip after the HR. It is pretty sweet.

If some coaches saw her swing at say 14u level they would have said "Well, that swing might work here, but at the next level blah blah blah."

Notice how long Brett's hips remain coiled. As TM said you coil and then maintain that coil throughout the swing. What does TM say causes rotation, the back leg?

Brett might have a weigh shift, although he remain coiled/back until toe touch.

I believe rotation is caused by the back leg and the various muscles that turn the back leg and also the torso pulling with the various abs and hip muscles. The question I have for the experts is: do those muscles groups fire at the same time? Or does one group fire first and the other assist? Or could you a hitter be successful either way? A while back someone posted a gif of a large valve and put forth the idea that one would use both hands (arms and torso) to open it. Make sense to me.

Another question:

If a hitter dip and rips, is that the start of their 2nd engine (hand engine)?

I know FFS talks about synchronization of the engines and that makes sense to me. What engine fires first? Can it differ?

IMO, most hitters swing around their bodies. The more inside the pitch the more around they go. The spine is the axis for most.
