What do you guys/gals think about the barrel path in this swing? Does the barrel stay above the hands that far into the swing, knob reaching front hip, or is this just an optical illusion because of the angle of the camera?

One of my first videos I purchased was Dave Hudgens and he said the knob reached the front hip with the barrel still above the hands/shoulder. Is this just style? Meaning does this method work?

Hudgen says the barrel path happens out front, meaning the barrel doesn't get on plane or begin to arc upwards/path of the ball until out front. He said that the barrel didn't arc behind the shoulder/body which is being taught today,

I see this as the barrel not getting into and staying in the hitting zone as long as a turn the barrel behind the body type swing.
This clip looks like something a "knob to the ball" type of instructor would model from.
Also this particular clip looks like what some would categorize and an "around the body" type swing?
But some of this appearance might be due to camera angle?

Yeah that swing sucks. Only produces a .304 BA over 14 years in the bigs and only 22 HRs a year. Guy sucks. LOL

I wasn't commenting on whether this particular swing "sucks" or not.
Just telling you what I observed in this one clip compared to other model swings, specific to "barrel path".
No denying Cano's success as a hitter. Just pointing out differences.

Shawn, at what point do you expect the barrel to be worked below the height of the hands on a belt-high+, inside pitch?

5frames,

That's the thing about this swing, is it's a high inside pitch. The hands can make room for the inside pitch, slide forward a little. I'm just curious if anyone thinks this a good barrel path to teach? Or is this just something that happens via pitch location and someone said this is the way to swing a bat.

Here's a another high pitch, only without the time constraint.

In Hudgens video on power hitting he was talking about creating the barrel angle out front and not so much behind the body/shoulder. He was talking up the swing arc being slightly up. He refers to the knob reaching the front hip with the barrel still up above the hands/rear shoulder. And that you don't create the arc (slight upswing) back behind the body.

Who you look at makes a difference. There's to many .225 hitters with 20-40 hrs being reviewed as good mechanics.
