I do not speak to my hitters of horizontal hip rotation.

When you speak of resisting rotation, what is actively taking place?

When I speak of resisting rotation, I am referring to the left side of the body resisting for a RH hitter. To demonstrate the feeling I will have my DD set up in her stance and hold her left arm straight out going towards the left handed batters box. I tell her to take her right hand and orient it to a palm up position. Then ask her to drive her hand underneath the elbow of the left arm while trying to maintain the positioning of the left arm. Which causes the resistance I speak of.

When done properly I feel the left shoulder and the left lat being raised due to the right side of the body somewhat bulldozing it’s way through. It also gives the feeling of the left shoulder getting underneath the right shoulder.

I have somewhat of the same feeling that Bergman spoke of. How he wants the hands and arms to feel like they are ahead of his bodies rotation. I also seen video of Tiger Woods talking about this feeling also. I feel that if one can resist the initial move of the right side when the transition of the barrel takes place it is like a snap of the left shoulder instead of an active rotation.

I hope that makes sense??

Drdrodd, you didn't answer the question.

Let me try again. What is actively taking place?

If I do nothing, then nothing will happen. If there is nothing actively happening, then there is no need to resist.

So what is actively happening?

Give it some thought.

IMO you'll want to get a handle on that.

The left side is actively resisting getting pushed or pulled open due to the right side coming through. The swing was launched.

Get a handle on what??

I see ... you believe the only active component in the swing is for the 'right side to come through'.

Let's get a little more clarification.

You earlier wrote of the 'left side of the body resisting for a RH hitter'. Please go through the initiation of your swing again ... and focus on the left side of your body. In a resting state your lead shoulder is under your rib cage and your rib cage is under your lead hip. How about as you start your swing? Is your lead shoulder under your rib cage? Mine isn't. Is your rib cage under your lead hip? Mine isn't.

Sorry Five but I have no idea what you mean by shoulder under the rib cage and rib cage under your lead hip..... I do believe the front hip is open at swing launch. The resistance I am speaking of is obtained by resisting with the shoulders/rib cage.... I believe ideally at heel strike the pelvis should be open around 40 degrees.... I will be honest I do not concern myself with the hips very much...... I believe if you hinge it correctly it will pretty much take care of itself.

Do you feel that you are actively trying to open the front hip?

Let's try the description again. While standing in a relaxed state, is your lead hip directly below your lead shoulder? Mine is. How about as you launch your swing, is your lead hip directly below your lead shoulder? Mine is not.
