He hit over .400 his Jr. and Sr. years. He was also a mediocre at best athlete. He couldn't run, his arm poor and I played hoop with him sometimes in the offseason and lets just say he wasn't any good. He played in the Cape Cod league after his Jr. season and hit like .150....

Success is the only thing that truly matters.... the thing that worries me about Fanboi is that I am afraid that he will turn his DD into a robot by taking stuff away because it isn’t considered HL.... It isn’t good to get caught in you can’t do that because it isn’t considered HL or you have to do that because it is HL is all I am saying....

Agree about success being the only thing that matters. That said, you can be successful at the lower age levels with a less than good swing in particular if you are a good athlete. In softball if you are a good enough athlete (elite) you can probably get away with a lot more and still be successful at the highest levels, the filter isn't as discriminatory. Plenty of successful hitters in Power 5 softball (we'll call that the highest level until we figure out NPF in the other thread

) with "interesting" swings. In MLB there are not as many successful hitters who you can say the same about. I would argue Stanton is one but he is a freak...

I would say it is debatable, and would allow the "gurus" to answer that question. But in my opinion there are some very good hitters at the highest level that utilize both methods; some start with a more vertical barrel, some with a flatter barrel. My original post included swings from Jim Edmonds and Carlos Gonzalez with flatter barrels. Both of them have had solid careers...

Lau Sr called the launch position with the back elbow down and next to the side. The lowerbody was not started yet, flat footed. Is Pujols showing that position or passing through it with this swing? Is the launch position as Lau Sr identified it, or is it the modern day the launch position at toe touch?

Thanks DR. I agree the proof will be in the pudding. I am only basing judgment on what to keep or not keep based on the look. But when she goes live in a game that will really tell me whether it is improving. Just getting some cues on feeling so far for me has been an improvement. Subtle but still an improvement based on initial cage work. I am taking everything I read here with a grain of salt and working for her to be successful. As always appreciate the comments and feedback.

That is good to hear.... I hope you didn’t take my comment the wrong way, I truly meant no disrespect.

With that being said my believe on the running start or what some refer to as “float” is inline with FP26. It is more of a style thing. This is actually something that my DD does and is very comfortable with it. It will look different depending on pitch height... the higher the pitch the flatter the barrel at launch so the bat will be lowered more pre launch..... The lower the pitch the bat will more vertical at launch with not much of a “running start” if you will.
