    Default Stretching



    Does a stride like this create a greater stretch? Compared to a no stride is there greater stretching happening within his style?

    Note, look how long the hip remains coiled.

    Where do you think the 'stretch' is happening or what do you think is being 'stretched'?
    Pick a color. I'm thinking you'd pick yellow.

    The load is....in a high level swing....STRETCH. It IS NOT simply moving one way, and reaching the range of motion limit, so that you have more range of motion to unload/push it forward. A load does not occur until slack is removed and YOU CONTINUE TO PULL BACK and create a stretch WITHOUT MOVEMENT. A load occurs when you've reached range of motion limit and continue to pull rearward. The load is a stretch between two body parts. One part is moving one direction, the other part is moving in the opposite direction. In the high level swing the load consists of the hip coil, the lower back pull back, and the scap pull back....all pulling rearward....across the rear hip socket....against a rear leg that is internally rotating

    It may help some hitters to create stretch, but it isn't necessary. Some hitters can create the right stretch without any type of stride at all.

    I would draw it from the rear shoulder or maybe the hands to the belt loop on the front hip. What do you think FFS?

    Rdbass,

    Technically I don't think there is a real stretch until the front foot plants and the lowerbody/hips start and the upperbody remains back. The x factor/kinetic link proves this to be true. That the max stretch doesn't happen until the front toe touches down and then the heel drops, foot plant.

    I think you could look at any line you showed. Some say stretch happens with both lines.



    The max stretch doesn't happen until the forward swing begins. His hips have moved more then you think at this point because they start coiled beyond parallel to the plate. The are cocked a little more then many.

    Ted Williams called this position the stretch position. Basically the position I paused the clip at after foot plant.

    This high level of athleticism isn't achievable by everyone, but you don't have to squat 500lbs. to hit the ball really far with these mechanics.

    I think hitters like Bagwell and no stride hitters create a greater x factor/kinetic link differential between the hips/shoulders. They make up for the lack of a stride with a greater kinetic link.
