Playing all over the place for MP is silly IMO. The Angels are a good org too, are they breaking up or was it just the 8U team that was going to leave? We played the 10U Angels team a few times and I really liked their coaches..the kids (in particular the middle infielders) had solid fundamentals.

You must be referring to a different Angels Group. The one she played on was the only team. It wasn't part of a Org or anything. Personally I don't believe they should have made the switch, but that is just a personal opinion. No grudges or anything. Coaches really were good coaches. I just don't understand why coaches have a fantastic group of Girls that play well together, can hold their own individually, willing to learn and then break it apart, just to be apart of a org et. I know they say opportunities are greater, but we are talking 8u. Are the opportunities that much greater? Coaches should be in my opinion willing to learn more themselves to pass along to the players, just like we do here for our own kids.

Ok yes, must have been a different Angels. There are advantages to playing in a "big name" org as one gets older e.g. invites to big tournaments, etc. Also I believe that the Tulsa Elite org has a lot of sponsors so the fees may be really low or nonexistent, at least for the older age groups.

Yeah for sure, I know they do offer those things: Invites etc. There is no Org fees. Not that I'm some old guy, (30's) but I can remember when I was young you played rec. ball and when you got in the higher ages then you started getting into travel etc, but times change and this are different now. They are starting kids in travel even younger now. Again not bad or good to me. Is there really that big of a benefit at this age?

Zero. An athletic girl can start at 12u and be caught up to the others by the time they start 14u.

That's along the lines of my thinking. Girls at this have to be able to get their hands on the ball repeatedly. In the correct form and mechanics, which will allow them to progress as they get older. I just don't believe playing on a "Elite" team is going to automatically teach a child proper mechanics and fundamentals because of the schedule that they require for games. Girls at 8 need "Practice"

Only reason I put my kid in travel ball was that I wanted her to be able to face good pitching. I could work with her on a lot of things myself, but that is the one thing I could not provide her. The 10U and 12U pitching in the local rec league here was pretty bad. If it had been even halfway decent she wouldn't have made the move till 12U at least. Some people make the move to improve the coaching their kid receives but that wasn't the reason for us.

I can see that point. Everybody has a different situation and goal. I'm not knocking anyone who chooses to have their child in travel ball.

My DD's 10U team practices 3 times a week when they don't have tournaments and played about 2 tournaments a month as a first year 10U team. Looking at the tournament schedule they
have this year, as a second year 10U team, they are probably playing about 2.5 a month. Even with that schedule I was still able to work with my DD 3 or 4 times a week. We would hit and field one or 2 days
and then on the days the team would only field, I would hit with her before practice and on the days they hit, I would hit her ground balls before practice. In the summer my DD has all day until I come home
for work to do normal 9 year old activities ;)
