Hello. If I’m reading this correctly. Are you saying that a hitter ‘shifts THEN swings’? They don’t ‘shift AND swing’? Correct me if I’m wrong please.
They're "shifting" as they swing. They're not swinging from a still/static position, and they didn't shift onto/into their lead leg then start their swing. They should still be "shifting" into the ball as they make contact with it....optimally shifting into it right at 50/50 at contact, but that's not always possible. What I don't want is for them to shift into a position, and then swing the bat from there. As someone's pointed out previously, if they get to a specific, specified position and then swing from there...they might as well just start in the position, as they've lost all of their momentum and/or body weight into, and through the ball anyway; if getting somewhere, and then starting their swing. JMO naturally.

Oh ok gotcha. Do you know of anyone that promotes such a thing as shift and lose all momentum and swing?

Yes. While they might not verbally promote it, their teachings do. Besides it's not an "all" or nothing thing, but rather having more vs less at contact. Talk to this kid's previous coach if you don't believe me....

What the hell was Atuve doing? Hit and run? Did he get the interference call? LOL

I would say that in many hitters at contact would have 80 to 100% of their weight on front side.

I agree for the most part. Maybe anywhere from 60-100% on the front foot at contact. A timing thing IME. I believe the 50/50 comes before contact on good swings usually at ‘twitch’(Fives description) or a ‘centering of the swing’( my description) or ‘launch position’ or ‘swing launch’ or ‘hitting position’ or...... you get the point. For me it’s about where the COM is not ground pressure.

99% of the kids posted here looking for help have not been coached to ‘center’ their swing or ‘pivot’ their swing(ffs). Which is the root of a good hitting sequence. My description would be a balanced 50/50 ‘hitting position’. Some don’t care for it. To me it gives a hitter a goal of balanced. That’s why I use it. It shouldn’t be taken literally. Or statically.

Personally I believe balance is the BIGGEST FUNDAMENTAL IN HITTING. I concentrate a lot on the shift of the swing. It’s what keeps a hitter balanced. There are other things as well such as path. But balance is my most worked on thing in the sequence.

Keep in mind I try to keep it as simple as I can.Not for my hitters. But for my sanity. :)
