I guess the coach could 'punt' and tell the kids that they aren't good enough to handle the pitcher. Then again, as a coach, maybe he/she could do their job and belly up to the challenge. Seems to me that the opportunity is more than a good enough excuse to push the envelope in terms of preparing. Heck ... the coach even bothered to make a post for input ... suggesting that he/she was up for the challenge.

Why is she pitching from 30 feet? At that distance, I don't doubt that she is reaching 50mph.

I would hire the best hitting coach that I can and assign some parents to throw to the kids. Get a couple of buckets of dead tennis balls from the racquet club, so no one gets hurt and pitch to them.

Maybe you could get a HS girl to pitch to them.

Instruct everyone that they are not to talk about how tough this team is. The hype is what making her unhittable.

Set goals, like "I am going to hit off of the tee every day."

And I agree, teach them to bunt and run the bases. Your team is going to have to be disciplined and limit their mistakes.

Good luck. Make it fun.

At 8U, all the tournaments around here have the girls pitching from 30ft.

Nor10 - I would also be skeptical if I haven't actually seen this pitcher in person. She is a special talent and I have not seen any 9 YO throw as hard and accurate as her. Its awesome to witness unless of course she is playing your team.

We are hitting the cages tomorrow and will work on everyone's suggestions. Thanks.

I bet you this pitcher is the same one we faced last weekend in Northridge. We got to the championship game and managed to get 1 hit off of her, but we out many balls in play. We lost 4-0 against them but we will face them against this weekend. We are working hard to beat them.

Then why are her parents afraid to move her into the 10u division?

Yes. There's no limitations to innings pitched

What kind of rec league are you guys in??

During the regular season, girls can play up a division (and she may have, she is not from our league?). But for all-stars the girls have to play their own age division.

During all-stars you can pitch any pitcher, as much as you like. We haven't faced their #2, but I saw her warm-ups and pitching to another team, and she is very good too! We have just been "lucky" I guess to have faced their #1, twice.

bcc69 - that's the one. you must have a good pitcher to only give-up 4 runs to that team with several TB players?

The same kind I am in, apparently. :p Our rec league has no rules on innings pitched. You can throw the same pitcher every inning of every game for the entire season, if you like.

However, that does cause problems because in the fall some of the teams in the area decide to play fall ball. We go and interlock with another association to do that. They have rules regarding innings pitched, therefore, we have to plan for that.

We feel like it could have been even closer. We made 2 errors that led to runs and our pitcher was a little shaky at the start. I know our girls can hit her. Good luck this weekend.
