Guys I was thinking of my daughters swing and hand path, wrists etc. As some of you know she is only 8. A idea came to me, when I was at work. What if I taught her how to use a Hammer properly, to teach hand path and wrist mechanics? Thoughts?

Howard Carrier used hammers in some of his instruction. I use a rubber mallet. If you understand the hand and wrist action then go for it.

I'll have to look him up. Does he have any videos of using them. Rubber mallet was exactly what I was thinking for safety.

The way hitting conversations often go with my DD, I am not sure I want her with a hammer in her hand.

I have videos of him using a hammer. I marked them up and revealed the errors he was making ... and then he and others got fairly upset. He ended up pulling the videos after the flaws were highlighted.

Just curious, was your problem with the hammer was that it is teaching a mechanic not related to the baseball swing? Do you see anything wrong in using a hammer for hand path etc?

It is related to CB's reply above ... "If you understand the hand and wrist action then go for it."

Drills are only as good as one's knowledge in terms of what they are attempting to extract. Don't expect a drill to be like taking a pill to cure a disease ... drills don't work that way.

Is there a correct way to use a mallet? I think there would have to be.
