Patter has given some good advice. As for the link that Eric F provided. That's what we did last night off the tee. Below is a video of her trying it out.

Don't let anyone change a thing. She naturally turns the barrel. As she gets stronger her body will more and more support that goal. Remember, a ton of hitters made it without someone showing them how.

So Cal
A thing to keep an eye on when she is hitting off a tee...Since the hitter doesn't have to look a the ball coming from the pitcher, young hitters will often over-rotate their hips and shoulders because they can still see the ball. If this is an issue, I will ask the hitter to look out an imaginary pitcher, and track an imaginary pitch to contact.

I swear that's the value of sending your kid to a hitting instructor. When working with a hitter I don't hesitate to say what's on my mind, outline a roadmap, and set expectations for learning particular movement patterns. The majority of my hitting students take feedback well .... but the exact same feedback coming from a Dad/Mom is not always appreciated ... and this is fairly normal. Remember this ... 10-20 years from now you'll value maintaining a good relationship with your kids ... so don't hesitate to use an instructor ... and let's face it, a decent instructor has seen many, many, many issues and should be able to work with your kid effectively. That said ... good hitting instruction is not always readily available.

I understand. She is only 9...I'll cross that bridge if I need to when she is a bit older. I had a similar relationship with my Dad when we worked together when I was around her age and by the time I was a teen it turned a corner. Girls may be different though ;)

That said, my wife stays home with our children and I am an associate professor at a State University (OU) which hasn't given a cost of living raise in 7 years..at the moment we can barely afford to pay for TB

Where I work cost of living raises are not given.

Raises have been pathetic for the past decade. If you are driven by monetary concerns then shop around.

Nah, I was just whining ..

If I wanted to make an amount of money which would make a difference I would probably have to leave academia
which would mean leaving teaching and research, which I love, and also losing the freedom to come and go as I please for the most part which is convenient
with 3 small kids.

Anyway, enough of my concerns. This thread was about loading and striding...
