I have asked about it before. She said its her way of getting for lack of better words in a ready to go position.

Pattar - She does it whether its me or the coach. I have notice she doesn't do it off a tee.

Sounds like it's all about timing to me then. She strides early and then realizes that she's way early and holds back. Wondering if the game stride looks like the stride she takes off the tee?

Timing off. if it was a toe tap (see josh hamliton) that would be one thing, but she is just striding early.
Might do some tee work to get it all timed up together.

Well off the tee, their is no timing aspect, so it isn't surprising. When you are front tossing with her, have her initially start her stride when you are bringing your
hand back (do a couple of fake pitches to see if she is doing this). If she is still double striding at that point have her wait longer, till she has no option but to stride once.
She will likely be late at that point but you can then adjust from there. Make sure to front toss from 10 to 15 feet (use a screen if you are tossing softballs..if you don't have an L-screen toss wiffle balls and use a bownet if you have one as protection) and make sure the ball is on a line and not lobbed in.

You could go no stride as suggested, but that is just a band-aid to the timing issue imo. She naturally wants to stride so work with that.

Is the stride natural ... or was she instructed to do this. pattar makes some really good points though. It makes sense to try what he is saying. However if still having issues, no stride might be the key.. basically the premature stride she is making is so early that she's kind of no striding now if you want to look at it that way, :)

Thank you for the suggestions and help. Her coach tried to have her do a no stride, but she said she did not feel comfortable doing it that way.

I don't know if you seen what I posted above, but she said when I asked her about it before, that she does it as a way of getting ready to go. Not as to actually start he swing. In her mind I guess its a timing feel. I haven't asked the coach about or anything. She does it consistently.

Hawk mentioned a toe tap. If she wants to do something with her front foot before she strides forward you could try incorporating that, although at 9 I am not sure that is the best of ideas.

Julray - I have seen many kids do it no stride, and it worked. What every way she does it I just want for her to be comfortable. One thing I have learned as a Dad trying to help aside from the coach is I remind myself to keep it simple!;)
