The 'how' is key. Very important that the "short hands" begin as the torso/hip-engine pulls. Review the 'short hands' video. This is what causes 'structure' to be built along the forearms ... it is why folks speak of the bottom-hand/lead-arm finding the ball ... it is also why the lead-arm can be thought of as the 'swinger'.

The short hands video is great, thanks for that. In this video he talks about the cue "bottom hand thumb turning towards the ground", aka turning the barrel with the hands, which as you say builds structure along the forearms. How does this differ from what Shawn is saying, don't turn with your hands, turn with your forearms. IMO.. the hands and forearms work together

Not here.

Good question...how correctly can you TTB without using your hands.
Forearm rotation caused by the top hand swivel:

Forearm rotation is a result of the hands swiveling/turning.

Launch the barrel rearward by swiveling your top hand & bottom hand(pronate?).

Regarding "bottom hand thumb turning towards the ground" ... yes, the direction is 'towards' the bottom-hand turning 'towards' a palm-down orientation. In reality the bottom-hand palm does not move to a 'palm-down' orientation during the 'short-hands' portion of the swing ... the bottom-hand and lead-forearm orientate to be 'flat' with the prediction of the oncoming hand ... see GIF below.

Shawn will have to address what he means by the 'hands' and 'forearms' being different. IMO many pros speak of their hands when they could easily be speaking of their forearms ... I forgive them because that is where their 'sensors' are ... in their 'hands'. That said ... the 'wrists' can be used to differentiate between the 'hands' and the 'forearms' ... especially for the 'bottom-hand'. If there is interest in about 1.5wks from now I'll put up a GIF demonstrating that ... ... ... I am currently away from my larger database of swing clips.

Thanks ... It obvious to me that the top hand undergoes drastic change in angle(in relation to the forearm) during this portion of the swing. IMO this looks like a handsy movement which TTB rearward. I'm sure the forearm supports the hand

That's exactly what I am seeing in the gif 5frames posted above..

so in this drill they start from loaded position and then ... Boom? I am only asking because.. what if a hitter loaded slow and early to this position in their game swing, and then boom(TTB). would that be a bad thing?

if they started from a separated stance, with the rubber band stretched and practiced not casting, a better drill to me.

YES. The key would be feeling the hip torso pulling.
