Curious, do you believe that Manny is "directing" his hands to the position in the first frame of this clip, and then TTB from there...or that he already TTB well upstream that sent his hands/bat/barrel to this position in his overall swing?
The rear elbow slots as the command of TTB signal begins. In slow motion the rear elbow slots as the barrel lags (not the lag position), creating bat lag or keeping the hinge angle.

OK thanks. We disagree on the bold. IMO, a hitter TTB early, pulls it forward with their lower half (hips), and then just doesn't "release" it on a check swing.Release, is turning the barrel. Being that the bat is still on his shoulder.
Me, i do not do what Manny is doing so well, i let it go to early, my arms get long.

In JMO...while slo-mo video is helpful in some cases...I believe that some have used it incorrectly in order to make adopt theories that are taking "effects", and attempting to make them into "causes".
Years back at another site, a member attempted to state that the "lag" position was somehow a checkpoint, and as a result, tried to create a new teachable theory off of it. Needless to say that didn't fly, and it was eventually dropped...but unfortunately I think that the same happened (is happening) with the "direction" before the TTB theory we're seeing the past year or so now.
Look at the "intent" of JD wrt getting the barrel up to speed ASAP (TTB)....
...and then how he just didn't "release" or complete the swing (yes, that was indeed a "take", and not a swing edited to cut it short...look at the lead leg not complete its "swing" movement).
Now if we use "release" as the beginning of TTB, we'd miss how he was able to get the bat/barrel up to speed, and "turned" to the ball at what could have just as easily been "contact" instead of the "take" that he decided to make it into.
So you're in essence saying this is the correct way of TTB?The body turn is getting the barrel up to speed, along with some extension i believe.
To work this conversation out i set up a machine at 40 feet and 70 mph. then even closer. i was so very easy to hit this velocity if i was in the position of manny, but not if i just swung at the ball, so i used direction with a loaded barrel, and i was very easy. I just back engineered from there for a smooth efficient swing.
