'top down, bottom up' is another one of those forum quotes that get's thrown around. My personal opinion is the hands are the 'trigger' in the overall sequence. I do agree with your differentiation between 'lead' and 'fire first'. Another question that has been discussed at length is if the hips actual 'fire' or are they 'fired'?

Hmm ... in my opinion the notion of the 'hit the ball with your rear hip' is to prep the torso in preparation for the 'hands'. In other words ... while I respect the feel that the hand are the trigger, there is a setup action needed ... and so one doesn't really time the ball with their 'hands', but with their torso. While I have used MB's cue effectively, my preference is for the move-out to be about setting up the torso to 'pull' ... and I've found that when I get this installed in a hitter that I don't need such cues as hitting with the rear hip.

Let's clear something up.
Miggy would hit/'bop' the catcher in the side of the head:

Comforto would 'bop' the catcher in the side of the head:

Manny would also:

Rdb ... don't agree with you on this one.

FP ... would appreciate any follow-up comments on the notion of using the rear hip in terms of windmill pitching accuracy.

It's a cue that DD's pitching instructor has used with her in the past. Hasn't used it in a while... But it's my belief that it was his way of getting her focus away from two bad habits she used to have.
1) She would try to step towards the location she was aiming at (inside or outside). She did this with an over use of her front leg. Her coach wants this process controlled more by the rear leg. The front leg will essentially land where the rear leg tells it to. In his instruction, the front leg has other jobs.
2) She had a tendency of over adjusting with her torso for high and low. He wanted to remove this tendency by moving the focus someplace else.

In a rather short period of time her control improved dramatically and he moved on to other things.

Hopefully that helps. Her coach has an interesting way of looking at things. He used to be a successful pitching coach at the college level (D1 and D2) and has coached for over 30 years at this point. His instruction falls in line with much that is talked about in the pitching forum here (brush interference, drive mechanics, etc.), but he doesn't use the same terminology.

If the bat was longer or the catcher was sitting up further the bat would of hit the catcher in the side of the head.. video doesn't lie

If If If ..... just how long of a bat would that be?

Take note that the bat isn't even hitting the catcher's glove, let alone the catcher's head.

LOL... I'm just being hypothetical 5frames.. of course nobody is stepping up to the plate with a 50 inch bat. My point is, that's the direction the bat is turning in the gifs RDBASS posted.. and if they did have a 50 inch bat it would bop the catcher in the side of the head. And I agree with what you are saying regarding the instructional video... it can be very misleading
