This is just my observation. I think when you see a guy who kinda goes "over the falls like this"^^^^^^^which is not exactly not exactly what TM teaches because this guy is using his front leg for more than just balance. Back to my observation. I see this type of posture more often on low off-speed pitches and it appears to me that the batter is ever so slightly early and in an attempt to time the ball they fall into this posture. In other words, many (not all) gifs that show this, would not what the hitter would practice off the tee or at batting practice. Fire away!

My comment were about the gif rdbass posted of I believe Cardinal player(lefty)

He describes it around the 5 minute mark.

You have frequently spoken of "over the falls" ... what is it?

Snap over the falls or off the barstool is what TM has promoted. I don't know where to find the exact gif of him saying it or demonstrating it. (I know someone here does though) It where he stay on back foot and snaps his rear leg or hip and falls back toward the catcher.

If you can take a GIF and isolate the frames of "over the falls" then that would identify the real action taking place.

I don't know how others are describing it...but years, and years ago when I was with Dave Hudgens, he talked about stepping on thin ice, and not breaking it in the stride, or as someone else pointed out...standing on a cliff when striding, and falling over it before you're able to swing or after you swing.

Maybe replacing "cliff" with "falls" is what's meant by it, but I'm only speculating/guessing because I too don't know the exact context of the "over the falls" statement when it was made.

This is posted by TDS and it very informative. He does not even slightly resemble TM.

He talks about getting into a hitting position, not lungeing, not staying back and spinning. The position he demonstrates has both feet firmly planted to the ground, not the front foot stepping on thin ice or testing the bath water. An athletic position where both legs, hips and whole torso can contribute to power.

I believe RH may be referring to the TM gif with the ball and socket demonstration. Personally I don't have that gif available.

Buttermaker or another HI proponent may be the best to answer. But if I remember correctly, it is a matter of creating a coil in the rear hip socket similar to a rag wringing. Tighten that coil until the hands turn the barrel. That TTB action is then what causes the hitter to go 'over the falls' sending the barrel towards the ball. I seem to remember someone stating that it is hands before hips in that respect. The hands are essentially the trigger and the rear hip pivot point reacts to that. Again, my understanding may be incomplete or inaccurate so it is better left to the HI folks...

My apologies in advance if I have added to the confusion...

There does seem to be some confusion on the action intended for the "over the falls". I personally thought it was when TM tried to fall over backwards during the 'lateral tilting process' ... i.e., the arching of the lower back.

That is what I thought as well, basically arching the lower back.
