He turns the barrel at launch which is after the pause in the clip. Prior to that is untipping and getting on plane.

A guy like Brett turned immediately because he was already pretty much on plane with his handset

Great point and very accurate

That's why the mindset of snap rearward is very bad! Its not the same angle...Setting the angle is more than snap/dump rearward.

I would agree that pauses in gifs are usually bad to see the full action and understanding of the motion. But in this case I think they were used to show the action of the load in ' turn the barrel'. Since it's such a small and quick part of the swing .imo.

The pauses are bad when Im 'feeling' the action in the video.

Bonds seems to be loading past the pause in the video.

Ok. The first Bonds clip is the turn the barrel portion of the swing before the pause. The rest of the swing is loading , but not in the context of this thread topic. The second clip there is not a pause , instead there is a yes/no meter. Which I think you might appreciate since there is no pause. Same effect. All the Gifs in this thread are to show the mechanic 'turn the barrel' . Which is a loading of the barrel so the barrel can be whipped . Like I said I usually don't like pauses. But for the topic of the thread it will help someone identify what 'turn the barrel ' actually is. Rdbass thanks for the gifs. Way to show paused and fluent swings that accentuate 'turn the barrel'.

You start a ton of threads and ask a bunch of questions. If there is a geometry question you will figure it out.

To be clear, I think there is math and physics in the swing which could supply some of the answers. For example they could be setting up the forces and how they are directed into the initiation of the swing.

Are you saying Bonds doesnt continue to turn the barrel after the pause in the first Gif?

Didnt spend a lot of time looking at the go/no go gifs.

Some very smart folks are/have been working on that. Lots of variables.

I think there is a pretty hefty prize for anyone who can make a mechanical model of the baseball swing.

I think there is a pretty hefty prize for anyone who can make a mechanical model of the baseball swing.

A predictive model, e.g. you can throw any pitch and have your model react to it as Bonds would (if he was the basis for the model)? One which involves a brain,
muscle, tendons, etc?? I am not one to say anything is impossible but that is about as close to as impossible as one gets...plus if somebody did do something like that
I would hope they would use it on something more important, like say, determining a cure for cancer or at least determining the best course of treatment for a given type of cancer(
since a cure is such a far reach as there are so many different types of cancers).
