Let me throw this out there.

If your teaching this to hitters who push the hands and have nothing close to bat drag. hand pushers because they make it farther in the game then bat draggers. Then does the supinate TTB mechanics work fine for them?

Great point

I have kids that swing down works for them

I have kids that swing up works for them. Its up to me to monitor it

If you have a pushy kid and saying supinate the top hand works to get them to use the hands as a pivot and to keep them from pushing forward..Have at it. Personally I don't use the term supinate commonly either.

My point is for most ...the though of launching rearward and top hand working first is a bad teach!

I'll find the exact quote in Hank Aaron's book, but he basically said the is "some" back swing and you don't want to eliminate it completely. And you don't want to much either.

Supination first =And you don't want to much either

Hank is right! DUUUUH!

I remembered it slightly different, this is what he said:

Hank
You don't swing a bat pushing forward from a dead stop. To swing forward fluidly, to get some muscle in your swing, you've got to have some kind of backward motion. But, and this is important, you should never have a backswing, because then you've got too far to recover.

In other words, keep that backward movement to a minimum. The least amount of hitch or backswing you have in your bat, the better the connection you're going to make with the ball. But if you start off with a decided hitch, the first thing you're going to be doing is start dropping you hands and backswinging, and you're just not going to be able to recuperate in time. So always concentrate on starting the bat forward.

Put your bat on our shoulder! Face the pitcher. Is your barrel rearward?? Yep. Just people take and put their own terms on it and call it “new”.

Been there done that. If over baked. Which it will be. All shoulder driven , dead hands .You get a one trick pony that gets beat on the outside a lot. It's about using your hands . That drill is for beginners IMO. No player over 12 should use that drill. IMO.

We have all seen the gurus come and go, The Howard Carriers and the Charlie Laus of the world, Some of their instruction has been proved to be NOT SO GOOD.

The latest guru seem to be Richard Schenck, His snap the barrel rearward and his supination are all the craze right now

D - WOW!!!! I had to take a second, third, fourth, and fifth glance at when you posted this which was TODAY! I think you may have officially set the record for the thread with the most posts in the shortest amount of time. Impressive and obvioulsy lots of interest. Looking forward to reading through them all over the weekend.

Cheers!

The wrist and the elbow need to be a unit...the hand and the elbow need to work together...You cant d that with a loose wrist.

The TORQUE Drill has been done with them since the 90’s. Now it’s “stand sideways and call it “coil”. Lol. All the same

Well, Epstein had a similar drill though I believe the feet were set up slightly differently.

If I could jump in here, I think what he is saying is that snapping the barrel for a 12 yr old is stupid. I agree. Strengthen the hands, good idea. Play around with running start idea ,OK. But to make it sound like this is the only way to do it is silly. Over the falls ,one legged swing is not the best swing for most fastpitch hitters. Just because Barry Bonds can hit HRs off his back leg does not make it the best swing. Coming from a golfing perspective, "over the falls", "one legged" and "the bat (turn shifts the weight)" would equal weakness, slappy, not using your mass(weight) correctly. If you were to take a 11 year old, 82 lbs. young lady and tell her to swing like Barry Bonds, you would be doing her a great disservice.
