I was watching a Mankin DVD and he was talking how taking the barrel back to vertically creates swing plane issues or binds in the wrists. The same thing TM shows, barrel dump?, Mankin called a swing flaw. He said in charting swings it was a flaw and not something you want to happen. This is the same question I asked in another thread. Is it something you want to happen? , or is it a swing flaw as Mankin points out?

Forcing a vertical bat path(swing plane) to get behind every pitch is most definetly a flaw and a cause for the high strikeout rates... AJ, gets away with it more due to being 6'8" IMO.

Bett's (smaller player) attempts the exact opposite during his warm up swings.

The hands set the plane of the swing. For the barrel to move along this plane the rear forearm has to supinate and the front forearm pronates which sends the barrel down the backside of the swing plane. Picture the skeleton GIF out there showing a disc that represents the swing plane. The flaw in that GIF is that it was promoted as showing how the shoulders set the swing plane.

WRT to a vertical dumping - a drill that has a batter vertically dump on purpose would promote the "feels" needed to train the forearms to move correctly to hit a live pitch with a deep barrel path.

So your saying the vertical dumping TM shows is just for feel and not the actual swing objective?

The swing down, compared to the vertical dump. It depends on the hitter and if your actually studying .300 hitters. Not enough time is spent on studying 300 hitters.

Shawn all swings are launched down but not down across/around the ball.

TDS, I agree with your above statement, but I also see what would be "down across/around the ball" the ball in this clip you also posted....

...especially with his lack of "extension", and a left hand turn around his body, and a back to almost vertical bat in relation to his hands on the "follow-through".

What am I missing, or does that observation make any sense to you also?
