Back on the dirt...

Hoping I dont regret this but I’m looking for some suggestions for my DD. Swing is ugly to me but has typically been productive. You can see the recent deep hits in this game but the previous 2 games were terrible. Pop ups, fouls, weak hits so I do know it’s flawed. Just wanted to see what the board thinks.

Just taking a quick look. She starts pretty late and against slower pitching it might work (is working). Perhaps the late start is resulting in issues rather then just mechanics.

Very possible. We do face faster pitching more often than not but she does better there than against slow pitching. I’ll try to get more video together.

Thanks for the comments.

50-58. I’m sure we see the occasional faster than that pitcher but not very often.
Currently 12u but moving up in the fall.

Typically she hits the ball way out front. Her HR’s are always to left field.

Her swing isn't "ugly" at all.

A few things to work on but the major one is that IMO she doesn't finish her swing well... she rolls over too soon and her front shoulder flies out early... these are the reason IMO she is probably out front and my guess is that she is struggling with off-speed and outside pitches. I would be working on these things with tee work on an outfront tee and an outside tee.

Other than that I see little things that need some tweaking ... lower half could be more involved and hands drop some.

In reality, I think that with some work she is well on her way to having a great swing.

The two things that jump out at me are the "chicken wing" rear elbow, and the lack of use of her back. There are certainly lots of players that use a high rear elbow with success, but if it's getting above the rear shoulder, it's excessive (IMO). For my DD, we found that keeping her rear elbow low works better for her. In the side-view clips, you can see that her torso is leaning forward. There's no pulling with the back muscles. When this is happening, it often results in a downward barrel path producing pop-up and weak grounders. I would prefer to see her engaging the muscles of the back to keep her torso and head stacked over the rear hip (pulling rearward a bit behind the hip is okay, too). Make sure the rear hip joint is getting fully extended.

Too much rear upper arm action. Elbow crashing into ribs from the upper arm adducting down. Need more forearm supination. Otherwise looks athletic!

I like what I've read so far. One thing about my comment is she is inconsistent of when she starts. Shocker right! A young hitter being inconsistent.

What happens with that high elbow with her is that it becomes the pivot point around which her swing revolves. That makes it long and as RDbass said tends to make it around rather than out from her body. She needs to feel that the swing pivots around her hands/forearms, which is a 'tighter' pivot point and will shorten/quicken (snap!) her swing. It really is a feel thing. Maybe start by just talking about how she uses her hands to work the handle, both directionally and to initiate her swing. She's very athletic and getting good results, this is about building for the next level.
