The load occurs on the front side. It’s not a shift of the weight rearward. Watch the best hitters in the world like the gifs of Ryne Sandberg. The load is a slight turn inward of the frontside while moving forward. Girls hear “load up” and set all weight on backside which is weak and limits the bodies ability to move forward. I teach a toe tap (stride) toe to toe with weight slightly forward in stance. The front side load will occur without teach. Just tell hitter to get away from her hands and keep front shoulder on the ball

Are these two hitter moving forward or loading backwards?

I agree that if you focus on moving backwards to load it can cause many problems and thinking about only moving forward can sometimes be beneficial.

Edmonds loads his rear leg. Finley is two legged so, moving forward to his front leg then swing.

To me, rearward action is going to occur some no matter what you teach. The key is to limit rearward action as much as possible. I teach “up and out” with stride leg while moving forward. Weight going back means girls must get started way sooner than a girl that picks up stride foot and moves forward immediately
