Tewks talks about taking your back butt cheek away from the plate. Also, talks about your back knee going away from the plate. This is a little different feel than getting around your hip to me. Is it the same thing? It feels more natural to move my butt away from the plate, IMO. I feel like it is easier to stay back on off speed.

I like the load into back hip to be rotational too, not sliding back over rear leg.So butt cheek does move away from plate. The knee is going to move, but not too much, more as a result of hip rotating. In fact the knee should even resist moving and create tension on inner hamstring. I also like the hitter to think that the rotation of the rear hip(coil) is what causes the lead foot to rise off the ground. Then a short lateral move and natural weight shift, foot lands slightly open were the numbers on back of jersey still can be seen by pitcher. Bat slots (barrel rotates is what i have heard it reffered to as) then it's time to rotate(uncoil). I also think bat slotting, or what ever you want to call it, is kinda natural. If the hitter is hitting laser line drives off the tee, she is slotting the barrel. I like to do tee work into a large backstop from about 65-70 ft away. Hitter get instant feedback. They see speed and launch angle. I even have them aim for certain quadrants of the backstop replicating inside and outside pitches.

This sounds to me like forward by coil. The description by rolling hard is pretty good. I would say the hips GET rotated . There isn't a conscious thought to rotate them though. That's why you forward by coil so you don't have to fire your hips consciously. They will be fired. Basically what gets loaded , will unload .

Knee cue doesn't feel good to me.I really like the butt cheek cue. I'm not big on teaching an open or closed stride as an absolute (Not saying you do either). We talk about being turned toward the second baseman for a RH hitter. I think everyone slots the bat but everyone doesn't work rearward. Love hitting in long cages off a tee and different quadrants. Love talking hitting. Like the idea of the knee creating tension in the hammy.

Do you think you can load and unload by turning your butt cheek away from the plate? Feels different to me but unloading similar. When I try to get around my hip I feel like I have to really fight so I don't collapse and dump the barrel. Bringing the butt cheek back gives me a lot more rhythm. I'm not saying this is correct but what I feel.

Coil should be back rear pocket towards the pitcher w resistance . The way you are describing it sounds the same. This should be the start of your forward move. It doesn't have to be a huge coil .
