Well I didn’t need a golfing video to tell me goat humping was a ‘bad thing’! (Sorry - couldn’t resist)

Thank you for the video, RH. It was worth the wait. How he kept a straight face while saying “goat humping” 4 or 5 times is beyond me. There was even a demo once or twice. I also loved how casual he was using the term, as if he was expecting us to all go “dude, yes! That’s exactly what I do to my goats, I mean swing...”.

Finally, to try and add some value to this post, I see how excessive hip tilt can be an issue in the swing. I’m thinking of one player in particular who almost ends on her toes while swinging - will try the chair (bucket?) drill next practice.

The term "goat humping" is fairly common in golfing instruction. Go to Youtube and search for it ... you'll find it.

Have to admit ... I have occasionally used the term while instructing the swing. It gets a giggle ... more importantly, it gets their attention ... and these girls definitely don't want to keep swinging with a look that resembles them humping a goat :).

Gags ... I get a kick out of your surprise of someone referring to a mechanic in the swing as 'goat humping'. I'll share a related story.

Several years ago I was dealing with a girl that was a “goat humper”. I tried several approaches to correct the action with this girl … but nothing stuck. IMO she wasn’t taking the need to correct the mechanic seriously enough. Then four years ago, I simply told her (in front of her parents), that we had to get her past her ‘goat humping’ tendency. She giggled. I told her I was dead serious. She was a ‘goat humper’ and would be short for this game if we didn’t correct it. Simply referring to the action as “goat humping” got her full attention. She took the instruction seriously … she did not want to be referred to as a ‘goat humper’. Long story short … she quickly corrected her ‘goat humping’ tendency … she’s now a senior in HS hitting very well and has signed to play college ball.

Sometimes it helps to use a term that gets someone’s attention.

"Goat humping" is a golfing term for early extension of the body. It's a 'bad thing'.

I'm of the opinion that goat humping is a bad thing all the time, not just with golf.

Funny!...but also true. Finding a way to effectively communicate is critical. Sometimes that means using unconventional approaches.

Get her on a chair or shorter round stool is even better and have her turn while hitting off the tee. If you have a stool or light weight plastic chair, that chairs back height is equal to hitters rear end in her hitting stance, put chair up against rear end while hitting off tee and her rear end should stay in contact the the chair until contact.
