Thanks FFS. These are a few more videos that reinforce my opinion that the baseball/softball world are well behind the golf world when it comes to understanding the respective swings.

Will try to incorporate the concept of “hip flexion to extension” next time I have to help run a “stop at extension” tee drill.

Side rant - I suspect that those with a more natural athleticism rarely needed to be coached about (arm) extension b/c they were already extending their bodies correctly. Fast forward a few years, and the former college/pro player isn’t aware of the movements done by the core that are helping extend the arms - they just see the “alligator arms”, and assume that’s where the drill-work should be focused.

Apologies for resurrecting a 2+ year old thread, but the topic and girl in question are the same, just 2 years later. After analysis, her follow through problem only exists in games when she needs to run bases. I assume it's mental in that she feels like she needs to start running, so the swing is cut short, but haven't been able to break her of it. There are 2 videos below. The first is game footage. You will see that every follow through is short and low even though the balls are hit well. The second is a front toss session where she seems to take a full follow through. What I'm looking for is some analysis of the swings in the 2 videos (as best as can be done with the camera angle). Are they different, or is it the same swing that just isn't finished? We are at the beginning of the recruiting process with some D2 (which is her goal) and a lot of D3 Interest, so we are just trying to iron out any remaining kinks.

Well she mashes .. :). Love her power UTM and Oppo. Yep you can see her follow through more front toss vs game swing. But tbh, I don't think it's hurting her, looks like the bat is accelerating right through the ball, doesn't slow down until after. Of course you posted bombs, do you have any AB's where she decelerates before hitting the ball? I'm not a scout(I have no idea how they would view it), but if I was I might be saying to myself, she doesn't complete her swing and still hits bombs, imagine the potential!! :)

Just to make sure because in this thread people are also talking about extension, but in this case I believe you are just talking about follow through(bat continuing on it's path after contact).

I really don't have examples of her decelerating prior to contact that I can tell. That was the reason for my question if you go back to the very first post of this thread. She generally hits the ball hard. Also, while follow through was the thing that stuck out to my untrained eye, I'm open to any other constructive critiques of the swing. I know it's tough to analyze with mostly video from behind the backstop.

Some hitting coaches teach the importance of follow-through to the point of having batters hit their own back to show they are "swinging all the way through".

Some fastpitch coaches/instructors have been teaching this nonsense for at least 25 years. My own kids learned this.

Please don't do this. It teaches you to extend your hands/elbow at the ball.

Not a single MLB hitter does this.

Here is OP at toe touch:

The green is the rear forearm and bat. The yellow is where they should be (roughly). She has lost half her leverage (power) at the start. This also means she must extend her arms more (less power) to get to bat head ahead of the hands at contact (see pic below).

Notice how her back elbow is many inches away from her torso at contact.

Pull the back elbow back like a bow as you stride forward. Don't let the rear forearm go vertical prematurely.

As good as you are hitting now, you could have much, much more power with a simple fix.

I do not believe the OP is talking about extension here.. it's more about her swing stops after contact a little more sudden than most, know what I mean?
