How important is turning your rib cage during your swing? I always hit the ball to the opposite field. If I did pull the ball it was a ground ball or bomb. When I coil and release my hip my bat still feels like I'm hitting the ball to the opposite field. If I turn my rib cage I get the bat out. Tewks wrote an article on sequence and turning your rib cage but haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else.

Never thought of, nor mentioned rib cage(s). What ever allows/maintains a 2 eyed look......

You can turn your rib cage without your head and eyes moving. It seems to me most hitters turn in that area but I do not much. My DD pulls the ball a lot more than me but she doesn't seem to turn well in the rib cage area. She uses her lower body pretty good for her age.

The use of the core is very important.

If you post the article then folks can comment on it.

It's on his paid site.

He talks about the speed of the swing and pelvis at max speed first, then ribs/chest, and then shoulders/lead arm. It a lot of studies the swing is the opposite. Lead arm, chest, and then hips. Last one not correct of course.

Are you referring to the load/coil or the actual swing where you feel like you're over rotating your torso?

I feel that I'm under rotating in the rib cage area. I think my lower half is good. The swing becomes a little bit of a push because of the lack of rib cage turn. That's what I'm feeling.

I read that article last year. Basically if you keep your front elbow in place during your pelvic stretch , core stretch the rib cage will get pulled in sequence to help speed up the rotational part of your swing and clear a better path so your hands never make a hard left turn(rhh). Is this what your asking about?

I think this thought helps if your hands/arms know their job. If they don't . It won't matter.

I see a lot of me in my DD. I was very strong for my size in my legs and normal core exercises and weak in the upper body. She's strong everywhere. Seem to be stiff in the rib cage area and does not get a complete turn unless trying to turn it. Just have never heard it mentioned until lately.

If you have a video of your DD swinging . Probably would speed up the rib cage problem. If you create good stretch . The rib cage is an after thought. Kinda like a kinetic chain of events happening in the body. I don't think you have to force the rib cage open. I reread that Tewks article , the reason why he had that drill was for a hitter that 'twists against themselves'. Basically if your DD is opening her hips and closing her shoulders off simultaneously. The thought of opening the rib cage would be a good remedy.
