Tewks analogy is your body works like a tornado. Nothing should twist against itself. It should open like a 'upward spiral ' from the ground up . I think of it as a forward tornado.Your swing opens up one segment at a time . Hope that make sense.
If you have a video of your DD swinging . Probably would speed up the rib cage problem. If you create good stretch . The rib cage is an after thought. Kinda like a kinetic chain of events happening in the body. I don't think you have to force the rib cage open. I reread that Tewks article , the reason why he had that drill was for a hitter that 'twists against themselves'. Basically if your DD is opening her hips and closing her shoulders off simultaneously. The thought of opening the rib cage would be a good remedy.

If the body works like a tornado (upward spiral) ... counter-clockwise for a RH hitter ...... and if there is additional independent orbiting/turning/arcing/working of the barrel in a counter-clockwise direction (for a RH hitter), then the working of the barrel, from a properly sequenced swing, will have the barrel turning/arcing/orbiting process providing resistance to the body's rotation. It is why the leadside should continue to pull virtually up until the barrel is released. Fail to get the sequence correct, and a similar orbiting/turning/arcing/working of the barrel can result in shutting down the body's tornado, or simply resulting in a push-like action and not a pull-like action.
Get the sequence correct!
