What gets the bat off of the shoulders is what turns the barrel, slots the elbow and get the barrel down to and up through the ball.
Slow-mo videos makes you see what you want to see. Not what actually happens in a HL swing.

I believe in both (slotting the back elbow and turning the barrel) happening at the same time. One without the other is no good

Agreed. Does it matter which one goes first? Or does it matter what makes it happen? I think the hands make that happen (slotting the back elbow/TTB) . The eyes/hands facilitate duties to the body. IMO.

Agree with the bold. Tiger Woods had a quote the other day about what he is trying to do now with his swing. He said that now that he feels no pain, he can again "trust his hands" as his father taught him. Golf swing and baseball/softball swing are not the same, but there is a reason most HL talk about their hands. It is the only thing that is in contact with the bat.
