Do you consider this turning the barrel or eary batspeed?

People see it differently, that is the "or". I'm from the old school where Mankin was the first to describe early batspeed.

When I look at the full clip..... My first impression is boarder line casting. Because he seems to lose the hinge angle immediately then holds it before it gets to far away. My other impression is hitting around the ball but IMHO he is definitely turning the barrel.

It's like he is throwing a parachute on the barrel because he loses the hinge angle early, and then as a result he must fight through it with an exaggerated "along to" phase.

Look closer. His lead forearm is pronating. He not losing the hinge angle. Early bat speed and turning the barrel

He isn't creating any early batspeed that is efficiently transferred into the swing. He might as well have one of those batspeed training parachutes attached to the end of the barrel.

Maintaining the hinge does not require a 90 degree angle.

The king of losing the hinge angle and fighting through the "along to" phase, Great swing for going the other way. Which he did often for over 3000 hits. The swing just transferred very well for going the other way.
