OU freshmen. She is from Hawaii, where my wife grew up, so she is my DD's new favorite player. Thoughts on her swing? 4 HR already this year.
Not sure if this was an off-speed pitch or not.

IMO.... She could do a better job of allowing her hands to be in charge of the swing. Now this could have been an adjustment on her part if she was fooled some by an off speed pitch but if this is her normal cut, I believe she would be better off if she allowed the actions of the lower body to be a reaction to what the hands are doing. So in other words allow the torquing of the handle to be what causes the rest of the body to REACT instead of taking the lead (top down swing instead of bottom up swing). In this swing swing Hip extension has already taken place by the time her hands start to torque the handle but she looks to be an extremely strong young woman. She can probably get away with this because of the hot bats & short fences. I am assuming that this resulted in a HR? Just my $.02

Yes it was a HR. I agree that it seems like she gets her weight forward too early on this pitch which is why I was wondering if it was an off-speed pitch which she was fooled on. I will try and see if I can find another video. Yes, she does look
like a strong kid.

I would like to know what you consider forward if you do not mind explaining. We may just have a different understanding of weight forward because I do not see it as her weight being forward. I consider forward to be on the front leg.

Kind of in line what you said. Looks like her hips slide forward a bit early which would seem to weight her front foot a bit early. Of course I am nitpicking. I would happy for my DD to have a swing a 1/4 as good as this when she is of that age :p
Again this could be just an adjustment to an off-speed pitch. I found another video but it is from (way) behind and hard to see much

Hard to tell from that angle but to me it looks like the same swing. Bottom up type.

Edit: I want to clarifying something.... when I say bottom up swing I am referring to driving the hips first type swing even though the hips or considered the bottom of the upper.

and to be consistent with my nitpicking from a few months ago I should have said she gets her center of mass location, with respect to the ground, forward a bit early

Another HR from yesterday. Whatever she is doing seems to be working.
