I have some clips to ask for your thoughts. I know the clip could be better at a straight side view. My question is there more downward movement from a vertical barrel to a lower slot? Or is there more backwards movement? I see more downward movement as compared to backwards.

So does these swings match this picture better.

I'm not saying there is no rearward turning, I want to also know how many think that a vertical bat is ideal at the launch position.

Vertical is not necessarily the ideal but it does get the ball in the air easier. When learning to turn the barrel I will use a George Brett set up (neck slot) with the hitters. Snap the barrel off the neck with the hands instead of turning the shoulders.

This makes ALL the difference...........

I see awesome barrel depth. Applying force into the handle of the bat. Sending the barrel rearward into the swing arc. Allowing the rear leg to deliver the barrel to the ball......

IYO does the flattening of the barrel help increase barrel depth? I ask because my DD hasn't been flattening the barrel as much as she did in the past. I never really noticed it before until I took some video of her from a catchers view point, it kind of reminds me of the bat path that I have seen from some ULL hitters in the past. It does vary some on pitch location. I find my DD likes for her hands to be further away from her body compared to most hitters and this may be why she tends to take a more "circular path" for a lack of better words than a lot of hitters. This is something I have been thinking about lately and wondering if she would get more whip if the barrel would flatten out a little more. If you are not sure what I mean by flatting, the two partial swing gifs that Shawn posted is what I am referring to the untipping of the barrel.

Edit: I believe Justin turner maybe a decent rep for what I am referring to. I seem to remember seeing a few swings of his where the barrel doesn't flatten very much, IDK just trying to give you an image to go off of.

My DD has enough flattening that she could let your DD borrow half of it and she would still have too much (too early). If you have paypal I can send you over some no charge

Like you already mentioned my first thought was the depth looks different based on the pitch. I like to tell kids we want to create speed behind the back shoulder. On a high pitch the depth/path is more horizontal. On a low pitch the depth/path is going to be more vertical. I know that doesn't really answer your question! Just some more on bat depth.....

Is a vertical barrel a way to increase the distance of force being applied without increasing the time of the action? There have been some very good HR hitters with a vertical barrel.
