That's good advice and I agree.. but the swing can still go to @!#% after the load.. right? The other day I posted a video of my failed attempt at turning the barrel with my hands. I got all kinds of questions about how I was loading, "are you coiling, are you pulling back" etc etc. There are things and other components of a good swing that are independent of just "turning the barrel with the hands". Am I wrong in saying that? I don't think it's enough just to say "turn the barrel with the hands" every time a vid is posted of a young hitter who is struggling to generate bat speed, square a ball up etc. Some would make it seem "Turning the barrel with hands" is the magic blue pill that everyone can swallow to solve their hitting issues. I just don't have faith in that approach. That's JMHO.

Julray,

That’s some very good questions.... All I can tell you is that my DD started having more success when only focusing on Turning the Barrel..... With that being said we had years of working on the load and so on.... So maybe it was just a coincidence that she was ready to move on to TTB exclusively..... I have no hitters that I work with other than my DD...... I don’t know if the gurus on here would say that my daughter has a good swing or not, to be honest I could careless what they think of her swing as a whole..... but they always provided me with recommendations on her swing, some we used and some we didn’t and without their guidance she wouldn’t be where she is today. I know that I didn’t really answer your questions...... because to be honest I can’t I don’t not have enough data to do so, but just wanted to share my experience with my only hitter......

With TTB it is believed it will correct bat drag and pushing by correcting the forces going into the handle. So it should clear up many problems.

DD must TTB to break the SM of her IR-IR-IR HC, SP and LBPB (or, shorthand, her RW). Snap!

Stretch your upper around your rear leg. Tilt & Turn Barrel. Now you are in business..........

You can get some good feels working through this progression.....

I really like that, thank you. This progression is easy to follow and something my DD can understand through practical use. I made my own tool, it doesn't have the 2.5 kg weight on the end. I used an old roll of tape with some pennies taped in there to add some weight, :). I showed it my DD and she loved it. Nice thing about it is it provides some feedback when the tape roll snaps into the end. That way she knows if she is turning the barrel behind her or incorrectly. I will have her use this for a while and incorporate a little heavier weight to simulate bat weight.

Spartans,

Do you agree with the twisting of the torso like that? My experience with that type of twisting with my DD is rotate city!!!! It does seem like a very good drill for feeling the coil though.

Very nice! I pretty much use that tool with every lesson I do. Instant feed back and gives the kids a good feel....

I think like with any drill you have to supervise it and make sure you are getting out of it what you want. I used to with several kids under 12 this weekend and liked the results. IMO the key is to not just twist the torso, but to make sure the right leg is a stable base and the upper (hips/back) is stretching against it. If that is done correctly and they flick the bat rearward they are going to get a snap that they haven't felt before. The rear leg will pull. I had a few light bulbs go on this week doing this progression.........

But yes I can see how this can go wrong and kids will rotate their shoulders only. It's important to stress the barrel turn is the trigger! Barrel rotating around the forearm is what releases the stretch......
