The loading is maximized when is follows a different path. So the vertical bat could be a way of increasing the stretching.

I think, I understand what you are saying and it kind of answers my question to Spartans. So do you think that the load is enhanced by taking more of a path like a spiral staircase going down the ball, compared to a for the lack of better words Ferris Wheel type of path. That is what I am trying to figure out, I am not sure if it matters IMO because I think either way it is attempted the barrel is turning in the opposite direction of the bodies rotation, and thus increasing the load?

Edit: Do you feel that a "running start or float" will increase the load? I feel that is what Bonds & Sosa are doing in the gifs you posted.

I think we are on the same page. A loading action follows a different path then the swing/stroke forward. This increases the stretching during the load. The back elbow being raised and the barrel can be viewed as being in a unnecessary position. Although when it comes to loading and the path it can viewed as a superior starting position for stretching/loading.

I agree, I have to say adding a tip to my DD swing has helped her power production tremendously, once she got comfortable with the change. At times she will get carried away with the tip and the results of her hits quickly let her know to settle down. For a while she had a little running start in her swing but lately it looks like she is doing away with it and launching from max tip or very close to it. I know it isn't an absolute so I am on the fence about trying to add it back in.

I know this has been discussed so much. However when looking at the posted pics by Shawn I find it hard to determine if the bat motion(turning the barrel) is being generated by the elbow moving to the slot position vs turning the barrel with the hands.

Using the GIF below, how would you instruct a hitter to use their hands?

Not here.

Don't be 'fooled' by looking at slow-mo videos to make your 'determination'. Pick up a bat and see what feels better or more efficient to you.
turning the barrel with the hands.
Some posters may also use their forearms along with their hands to turn the barrel.

I'm no instructor, but I see a lot more movement from other parts of the body besides the hands. So I would focus more on that, than just turning the barrel with the hands. For example, lower body, elbow to slot position, core.. etc. hands look pretty quiet to me in this gif.

Julray, I am also not a hitting instructor but many people say that you have to be careful watching slow motion video like the swing clip. The question that you have to ask yourself is..... Is his body moving in that manner because that is where his focus is...... or ..... Is his body moving that way because it is supporting what the hands are trying to accomplish?
