The loading is maximized when is follows a different path. So the vertical bat could be a way of increasing the stretching.
I think, I understand what you are saying and it kind of answers my question to Spartans. So do you think that the load is enhanced by taking more of a path like a spiral staircase going down the ball, compared to a for the lack of better words Ferris Wheel type of path. That is what I am trying to figure out, I am not sure if it matters IMO because I think either way it is attempted the barrel is turning in the opposite direction of the bodies rotation, and thus increasing the load?
Edit: Do you feel that a "running start or float" will increase the load? I feel that is what Bonds & Sosa are doing in the gifs you posted.
I think we are on the same page. A loading action follows a different path then the swing/stroke forward. This increases the stretching during the load. The back elbow being raised and the barrel can be viewed as being in a unnecessary position. Although when it comes to loading and the path it can viewed as a superior starting position for stretching/loading.
I know this has been discussed so much. However when looking at the posted pics by Shawn I find it hard to determine if the bat motion(turning the barrel) is being generated by the elbow moving to the slot position vs turning the barrel with the hands.
Don't be 'fooled' by looking at slow-mo videos to make your 'determination'. Pick up a bat and see what feels better or more efficient to you.I find it hard to determine if the bat motion(turning the barrel) is being generated by the elbow moving to the slot position vs turning the barrel with the hands.
Some posters may also use their forearms along with their hands to turn the barrel.turning the barrel with the hands.
I'm no instructor, but I see a lot more movement from other parts of the body besides the hands. So I would focus more on that, than just turning the barrel with the hands. For example, lower body, elbow to slot position, core.. etc. hands look pretty quiet to me in this gif.Using the GIF below, how would you instruct a hitter to use their hands?
