I like the up-front stretch that allows her to release the barrel behind her while being athletic during the whip... If she struggles with certain pitches I would work on adjusting the posture during the up-front stretch. No one can drive every pitch that covers all of the strike zone.. Just look at the results of the best with 2 strikes.

Thanks TDS.... One of the things that she started doing in her set up is to get into her legs more. I don’t really know how to explain it but IOW like loading the thighs compared to bending at the knees. So far I believe it is doing her some good it seems to be allowing her elbow to get through better on those tight pitches. Is this something like you are referring to about up-front stretch?

Up-front is the pre-swing stretch which you see with her barrel tipping over the plate. She then releases it which allows her to get into her legs (athletic) while at the same time the barrel begins to swing behind her.

First, I like her swing and intent. IMO, the tilt comments are spot on. Otherwise, I actually want my hitters to unload through the ball where their back foot has a similar action to your dd. As you know, Pujols was the model I used for my dd and he came off that back foot all of the time. He sometimes stepped across the plate as he finished his swing with that back foot. The back hip straightens that front knee and so, she is doing that. She should not give up on being slightly open with that front side. I have my hitters start slightly open and then I have them "get their front hip in the way to get it out of the way." IOWs, in loading their back hip properly, the front hip will move toward the plate and then the unload will have it get out of the way. JMHO!

Am I reading this correctly?
You have them start with legs in the open stance position, but the hips are cocked backed? Basically you have them start with their hips pre-loaded?
Thanks

Does anyone have a way they've found to effectively talk about, demonstrate and instill tilt in a hitter -- it's a difficult concept to get across I've found...what simple words, demos and swing-thoughts have worked for you?

I like to stress tilting away from the opposite middle infielder. A way to get a kid to accomplish this feel is to have them take a dry swing as if they were hitting a ball straight up in the air. I have also had them hit off of a really high tee. When kids do this they usually get a feeling in their back that may have never felt before. We also talk about "falling off the cliff". The feeling of their rear hip "falling behind" their femur. IMO the tilt has to be in the rear hip socket.....

Here is a kid working on incorporating some lateral tilt into her swing...

To expand our convo last night - taped lines on the floor to illustrate the corner tonight. Rear hip joint is represented on the floor where the tape forms a corner. The tilt is at that corner and rearward along the line that runs slightly diagonal along with the initial barrel path.

This clip should help
