Hoping to get some feedback on DD swing. We worked hard this past fall to get her swing more in sequence as she used to just lung towards the ball with her full body. With limited funds, we have chosen to date to put money into catching lessons instead of hitting, so any constructive feedback or suggestions on things to work on is greatly appreciated. https://youtu.be/oQ7pIasFd2g

Your DD looks like a very powerful young athlete! However there are some improvements that can be made to get more from her hitting. Her swing is still just a forward lunge. She starts with her hands back at the furthest point, and they move forward along with her stride before launch. My first recommendation is to put more focus on improving her sequence and getting some stretch/tension created - "walk away from the hands". Her tempo also feels very rushed.

Thanks for the feedback Eric. We have talked about walking away from the hands, but how do you go about teaching that? I suppose something like standing behind her and holding the bat as she strides might work to give her the feel of it.

That is actually one way to approach it. A good swing is not a gather back and push forward, it's a stretch and whip. You want her to learn the concept of the stride foot and hands moving in opposite directions to create stretch/tension in the body. A critical piece is getting tension in the scap. The hands pulling back should be a result of the scap retracting toward the spine (like drawing back a bow). Draw the bow DURING the stride.

Several people suggested a couple of drills to me for my DD, but this one has worked the best.

Knob to knee drill.

My DD really likes this one and she can really feel the stretch. I think it works well for her because it forces her to bring her hands forward first (to her knee) and then she must walk her hands away as her foot strides forward. I also advise her to pinch her scap which helps her resist.

I think the first and easiest thing for her to do so she can feel what it's supposed to feel like is have her do drills where she does not swing.

She only gets to foot plant you can have her video herself but the drill is only considered successful if her hands have travel back from their starting position (and not down looks like she does have a little up/down/up thing going on as well) and not forward.

This is really a foundational thing she need to understand about the sequence it is not back and forth...you have to have the stretch component in there when your foot plants forward (or begins bearing weight) but your upper half is back.

She levels her swing out around contact, although it is still a down and through contact swing. The swing bottoms out out front.

I'll make a clip a little later,
