Saw a short clip of a few USA players talking about hips and wrist working together in the swing. It was showing how your bat would dip if your hips were early. Can't find it now. Any ideas on hips and wrist together?

Not really sure what is meant by that statement but from my experience with my DD who was taught hips before hands. I found that if she is focused on firing the hips before the hands the hands would get left behind causing her to yank the handle and putting a dip in her bat path or at least in my DD’S case it did. That problem was corrected by allowing the hips to get fired instead of fired. The hips are now only a focus during the loading process and not at launch.

Never heard hips and wrist together and was going to go back while I had some time and watch it. Can't find it now of course. I think it was Kacey Cooper (spelling?) Auburn player.

Kasey Cooper! DCB Elite video, talk about the back knee a lot and staying low. I always get blasted but I'm a big Gary Ward fan and they use a lot of his principals.

A friend of mine was a coach at a hitting clinic ( very recently) that Kasey attended. Kasey falls into the same category that a lot of good hitters do. She states that she is trying to do something that doesn’t show up in her game swing. He showed me video of her taking BP in a cage and doing exactly what she promotes and it was ugly but during the same clinic she took live at bats off of Monica Abott and her swing was nothing like her BP. When asked by my friend why her swing was so different she couldn’t give him an answer. I believe when it comes down to it the great hitters just do it and really have no idea how they do it . So I take most of what they say with a grain of salt.

I coached a young man that played in the bigs and he had no clue what he did. She is hitting in the cage and talking.

What technique/method/process does she use that turns the hips into a reactionary, rather than an active, movement?

Was it more a focus on the back leg, or “loading into unload” sequence?

Nothing actually..... There is zero focus on the hips other than FBC... The only focus is at launch.... The focus at launch is to allow the turning barrel to open you... not by “ACTIVELY” firing anything.... Now her back leg is still a work in progress because she seems to push off with the foot. I recently had her mobility assessed and she has 0 mobility in her right hip and right ankle.... It was interesting to hear that she must push off the ground to throw or hit because her mobility will not allow for her not to. The PT that assessed her has never seen her swing or throw anything and told me this without me saying a word to him about her issues. So apparently she will continue to do that until she gains more mobility in those areas. It also puts her in a high risk for knee injuries.

Individual mobility is an important factor that many people don't understand. If you are interested in learning more, Eric Cressey is a good follow...

Thanks for the reference..... Yes it was a real eye opener for me, the guy testing her said that the worse score he has ever seen was a 28 and DD scored a 31.
