here's a few swings of DD from the tee.

this past June:
https://youtu.be/HLzzpVqFUcg

this past October:
https://youtu.be/1gmxAPwOuTY

Would like to get some feedback from the group.
What to focus upon this Winter, to improve?

What I see is:
1. too much counter rotation on load
2. too much vertical movement during load>>go>>contact
3. "hunched" posture for first 1/2 of swing

Don't have any good game vid to post, unfortunately.
But can say that she definitely tends to arm bar in game situations.

Thanks!

I tend to hold off on counter-rotation judgments until I see a swing off a moving ball from the front. It's not uncommon to see players over-rotate when working off a tee because they don't have to see the pitcher. That said, on the move-out/stride/FBC, I like to see the turn-back of the pelvis and shoulders be about the same. In these clips, it looks like there could be more coil into the rear hip, which will get the line of the pelvis turned back more.

I agree that the change in head elevation after the front foot is down is a problem. This tends to make consistent contact more difficult.

Yes Eric tee swings and counter rotation often go hand and hand. And then live swings seldom show the same amount of counter rotation.

Yes to much vertical action in loading. The head moves down a long ways during the load. And then the head moves up during the swing.

I think she ends up being more shift then swing versus shift and swing. Relies more on momentum. A bit of delay when the heel plants. I might start working on the stride/ move out with the weight back and a lower elbow set to help balance. I think the top half over compensates for the lower half. I'm still learning so someone else would be better suited to explain how she could better get her load or coil, keep it and use it. Not wanting to come off as negative, I'd guess she still does well for herself and looks like she gets athletic movements well enough to adapt.

Core needs to activate. To do this you need to get the lower half out of the way while the top half stays back. Keep the rear elbow back and behind while the front knee opens slightly towards the pitcher. Stretch. In the gif you can see the front foot plants then turns. Have the front foot plant in the position at the end of the gif, be careful not to open the knee to the pitcher too early. Unstretch from the ground up. Now power the upper half with the core. Stay through the ball, get the bat off the core powered merry-go-round towards center field. Work on this and see how bat path changes, this should get rid of the lead arm blocking action and you will see the lead elbow working up, which will allow extension to center field and not down around the waist.

Im not a good teacher (or learner ha) so it took a long time for my DD to learn. Looks like you have the athlete and plenty of time left. Keep working, be patient and good things will happen!

I think the load is to mechanical, the upperbody. Try to forget about loading up (getting the back elbow high) and just walk away from the hands.

Just learn to turn the barrel. All in with the hands when it's time to go. Stop trying to get forward. Get the barrel around as fast as your hands can do it.
